Keep in mind any statement name/address changes aren’t reflected right away. They take at least one full statement cycle to populate since the current statement would be with older info.
One of my banks do that as well. Did you check with your bank if they could send you a letter of ownership (like my bank is doing)? That would make it simpler for Amazon to verify.
You’re right. It’s not fun changing a deposit bank. I had to do it one time and was scare of Amazon thinking that the account was hacked and caused other problems (suspension, etc)
Since there is no option to change the bank name, I would open a case with Seller Support to see if they could help. The routing number and account number never changed. It’s just bank acquisitions. If they cannot help, then… proceed to adding a new bank and remove the old one. Make sure that you create a backup admin before doing all of these. In case if Amazon suspects that you’re a hacker and lock your main admin account, you would have the backup admin account to work with Amazon.
Getting a letter was going to be my next plan, but I wasn’t going to be able to get to my bank branch till next week. In the mean time I had a theory that the people doing the verification just are not the smartest, and so I just kept submitting the same statement with the same account over and over again, finally someone was smart enough to figure it out and verified it.
Another idea I had, if that didn’t work was I was just going to take a picture of a check with VOID written on it, because after all a check lists my name and account number, as well as the bank. No idea if that is something that would work, but it’s an idea if you can’t get to your bank to try and get a letter.
You wrote this phrase using past tense verbs. Did it actually happen? Did someone eventually figure it out after sending the same documents repeatedly? I hope you would say yes. I agree that people who do this verification most likely aren’t that smart. It would be nice if we could keep submitting the same documents until the smart one gets to work on it. ![]()
That’s a great idea. It should work if the people who do the verification are in the US. If it is outsourced to other countries (like India), this idea might not work. The paper check concept is very old. Many countries have moved away without even use it years ago since the mobile banking came.
The letter that I received from my credit union was not an account ownership letter. It was just a direct deposit letter that has my name and account number on it. I submitted it along with a monthly statement (that didn’t have account number) and a cover letter to explain why I’m submitting 2 doc. The Bank Verification has been in status “In progress” for a few days. I’ll report here whether it passes or fails.
So, how did you end up submitting? Which documents did you submit? Let’s keep each other in the loop.
If Amazon was willing to accept a voided check, it would be listed as an option within the instructions.
You’ve got a point. I could be wrong but I think that Amazon doesn’t list voided check as an option because of 2 reasons:
(1) Voided check is a US thing. This verification is worldwide. Bank statement is more common that every bank in world could issue monthly statements.
(2) From the operation standpoint, it’s simpler and faster to have less options for the worker (people who do the verification) to work on.
If the verification is done in the US, we might have a chance of using voided check. If it’s outsourced, the chance is grim.
- To much of a security risk … we wouldn’t provide a voided check.
- Checks can be printed fairly easily and would pose a risk of fraud for Amazon when verifying.
The 4th time I submitted the same bank statement it was verified.
Now in between the 3rd and 4th attempt I did do a support case but that ended up closed with no help since all they wanted to do was tell me how to verify my account.
It should not work. Anyone can just print a check, on their color printer. Or order them… that say anything you want. The actual real account owner is what the Federal Law tells Amazon it must verify. Remember Amazon didn’t just make this up to annoy us (this time), a few hundred folk in Washington did.
Glad to learn that keep submitting the same doc eventually works (when it reaches the right person).
Does your statement show the ABCDEFGH or it only shows 01 and 02? My bank statement doesn’t show ABCDEFGH. It only shows member number and 01, 02, 03, and so on (I have many sub accounts).
To be fair, a bank statement could be printed out as easy as a check ![]()
If they are legitimate. Forging a check is something most third-graders could manage on their school iPad. Forging a bank statement is a completely different matter. It hasn’t been too long since Amazon kicked off a bunch of Sellers that were selling check printing services (for exactly this reason), And you can find literally millions of offerings on eBay for check printing services, or blank check blanks on eBay…
I am somewhat skeptical that @ModernSwitch’s experience is typical. Remember that this is in compliance with an actual Federal Law, Amazon gets fined $14K for not verifying a Seller’s information to the Government’s satisfaction.
