Hi,
Minutes ago, I received a 6 digit code to reset the password even though I didn’t request it. I don’t want to contact Amazon seller support right away because they would shoot first (suspend the account) ask later and to lift the suspension is a great pain in the butt. I’m monitoring the activities in my seller account and emails. If someone is trying to login from another machine, Amazon would have sent another 6 digit OTP code. The OPT code never come. So I wonder if it’s possible that it’s an Amazon glitch. Frankly I’m still a bit concerned if someone is trying to gain access to my seller account. Any advice is welcome. Thank you.
By the way, the text message was legit because it came from the same source that the OTP code usually came when I logged in from a different device.
I mean I get a one time code from Microsoft every 24 hrs 2 minutes cause someone is trying to get into my account, but they aren’t going to get anywhere even with the right password due to 2 factor.
I would assume someone is testing a list of amazon seller looking for one that doesn’t have 2 factor enabled.
This fraudulent message may have come from an Amazon employee, or an associate of an employee, with access to Amazon text messages, etc.
I would not contact Amazon seller support because you might be part of a targeted group to manipulate.
My rule of thumb is: When in doubt, don’t respond.

If the code came in and you didn’t request it - someone requested it by trying to log in (the situation of how this happened is irrelevant) - you do nothing because you’re already have access. It has happened to me before (a lot) via email. This was circa '22-'23
Not necessarily. There is a glitch that has been going on for months where OTP’s are being sent when you refresh your App and other assorted things.
It was driving me nuts but I finally realized it was happening when either me or my partner did something on the App (even refreshing orders). It doesn’t happen every time, not even close, but it’s random and a glitch.
What the OP is describing is different and concerning. I too wouldn’t do anything though because there’s a chance that was a glitch too.
You need to log in first to get to the point where you can change your PW. There would have been an OTP for that first so I am leaning towards a glitch. Hopefully that’s just what it was.
This has happened to me a few times as well. My husband will open the app on his phone and I get a code sent to my phone.
I have to say that the frequency has decreased. Hasn’t happened since 3-22.
Was happening every 2 or 3 days and when it happens, it happens 3 or 4 times in a row within mins.
It drove me nuts because I have 2 accounts linked to the same phone (other than emergency #). So when it first started happening, couldn’t tell for which account it was for and thought we were being hacked so kept changing passwords…
Thanks for this insight. Hopefully it’s just a test
Yea @HumbleWarrior but the above kinda shoots down @Pepper_Thine_Angus 's theory.
You have to be signed in first to change a PW which means they are already in your account. But they shouldn’t have been able to get into your account without the OTP for the sign-in.
Seems like a glitch to me TBH.
Thank you everyone for your reply. I just used the same password to login from another machine and it was still working. So, I guess the text message was just a glitch. I’ll monitor and report back if funny things happen (fingers crossing)
It's called hindsight?
