I want to close / wind down my Amazon EU operations - any advice?

2019/2020 decided to expand into Europe. Jumped through all the hoops got VAT’s in UK and all EU countries (France, Germany, Spain, Poland etc…)

Fast forward today and the EU biz never took off and just not worth the headache/fees/compliance anymore.

Any advice on the processes to close the EU side without having an effect on our Amazon USA operations?

After seeing what happened to our friend @Tried_Tested in regards to the Brazil account closing we are terrified but as mentioned dont want to keep paying needless fees and havent restocked in 6 mos now.

You can request the closure of individual marketplaces through that marketplace’s seller support

There’s always some risk that you get your entire account closed though.

I just read the link, thank you. It says you must hard delete all ASIN’s, that is fine but how do I delete the marketplaces after?

For instance, if I have 39 ASIN’s in UK dashboard, I dont think that deleteing all 39 ASIN will make it the UK marketplace just disappear from dasboard and remove monthly selling fees.

Apologies. Since it didn’t apply to me I didn’t really study it - -just bookmarked it back when it appeared.

Yes. What next?

… after deleting ASINs … put those marketplaces on vacation mode …

EDIT
… you should be able to remove the EU Marketplace as a whole once all the ASINs are removed from it … but would caution (with the thought of what T_T has gone through with Brazil) and just put it on vacation mode to avoid any potential issues …

My issue was that the NA marketplaces are linked - and all use the same merchant token. Even though through the documented options even in the linked marketplaces there was a clear option to close single marketplace. This was a blatant error on how this thing was set up. In my case, I didn’t even ask to close my account and they force closed my account - it wasn’t simply about closing a marketplace - they magically mistranslated my request about workflow as an account closure request (no rational or scientific reason why) and proceeded to do so. Unlinked marketplaces with different merchant tokens from NA marketplaces shouldn’t cause a problem of linked accounts being closed.

Please follow steps before doing so (deleting ASINS). Clearing balances. Clearing policy issues etc.

Once I do delete everything, wont the marketplaces still technically be active? Meaning, wont they continue to charge me monthly selling fees? And additionally with EU you are charged monthly for Amazon to provide the required VAT reports to the different countries, per their requirements.

So I would assume I would continue to be charged the compliance fees as well, even if the reports are “null” bc they would still be filed?

I am sure we are not the only US seller to want to dump the EU marketplaces, they recruited us hard in 2019 to open and Im sure we were not alone.

May I ask:

  1. If is not possible to switch from the Professional Selling Plan to the Individual for your SoA (‘Amazonese’ for “Selling on Amazon”) Account in the European Region Marketplace?

  2. Did you launch your operations there via the Global Selling “Merge Accounts” feature?

And after 90 days past last sale
And once the balance on the EU account is exactly $0.00
