I prefer to refer to the process of selling on internet marketplaces as analogous to sharecropping.
If one decides that sharecropping is the way to get ahead, they should know what they are doing. Some sharecroppers have survived and even thrived.

That’s a horrifying read on so many levels.
I’d heard of the abuses of Amazon (and other) drivers, but wasn’t aware that they were basically serfs of a separate company subject to the Lord Amazon’s stranglehold.

It’s not much different as a seller. The only difference is most of the time, we can use the bathroom when we have to.
Of course sellers have it better but was making the broader point that Amazon is a horrible company that is abusive at every level.
They play mind games and control everything, sometimes to the detriment of themselves but their AI tells them something different.
I’ve made this point a lot over the years on many forums - If the general population really knew the truth, I don’t think Amazon would be nearly as successful as they are.
Amazon’s PR spin is pretty good. Fools most.

If the general populace knew, they would ignore it to get a better price…there have literally been multiple (general tests - you can’t really test for this with controls - associative at best) - where a manufacturer offers a product from China and then offers a slightly better quality US version at a higher price and it’s no contest. MiC wins everytime.

This is a nightmare:
As a result, [DSP] drivers routinely install these apps on their own phones, and must give them broad, far-reaching permissions, such that drivers’ own phones are surveilling them for Amazon 24/7, whether or not they’re on the clock. It’s not just DSP owners who are chickenized – it’s also drivers, footing the bill for their own electronic whips.
That entire piece is a nightmare, frankly. No one should be ok with any of it.
