Important: USPS package drop-off timing update

Hi there,
Starting in February, USPS Post Offices will begin auditing packages more strictly for payment before accepting them. As part of this change, USPS representatives will be more diligent about confirming that postage payment has been fully processed at the time of drop-off.

If a package is handed to USPS too soon after purchasing a label, the payment may not have been fully processed yet. In some cases, this can prevent USPS from confirming payment at the time of drop-off.

To help avoid acceptance issues, we recommend waiting at least 60 minutes to drop off your packages. This allows enough time for payment information to fully process and be available to USPS.

We think this would require some form of update to the scanners. Would be interesting to know if USPS would just be checking payment completion or also the amount. Our labels only show weight and not the amount …

It will be interesting to see if and/or how Amazon handles it.

I wonder if it is a Shippo thing because maybe Shippo is slow in processing the charge where Amazon backs the charge and then deducts from seller.

Look on the bright side, at least they will have to individually scan each package to know.

Don’t know … there were several posts on NSFE a time back where sellers were having issues with USPS scan showing no payment received and the packages were in limbo (going no where). It was only happening in a certain region so that might have been USPS testing and firing a shot across Amazon’s bow (kind of like “hey we are watching you”).

I have Shippo integrated/attached to my Amazon and eBay accounts. Very similar to Veeqo without inventory access. Shippo instantly updates the orders with tracking information. Purchases and adjustments are settled through the Shippo account. I use them only for ‘bad’ addresses that USPS is unavailable in Buy Shipping, mostly they come through verified, but you can change the shipping address if needed to avoid canceling an order. They also provide free USPS Returns Service, only pay when scanned, for when a prepaid return label is warranted.
