India - Labor Strife, Dock Strike

I export pallets to more countries than most people can name, so I get the shipping news. Here’s the latest.

India is on the brink of a significant port strike, set to begin on August 28, 2024. Approximately 20,000 port workers from key ports will participate in an indefinite strike. The strike is driven by unresolved demands for wage revisions, payment of arrears, and pension benefits, which have been a point of contention since the last agreement expired in December 2021.
This could severely disrupt cargo handling and further congestion at ports, especially as it coincides with the peak holiday shipping season. Businesses dependent on timely shipments are advised to plan for delays and consider alternative shipping methods.
If the strike extends beyond a few days, the impact on global supply chains could be significant which will lead to increased shipping costs and delays.

(Translation? Use air freight for India until further notice!)

This is nearly always the case for when workers go out on strike (IF they are smart, anyway) and it can be unionized or not. I would think they are there but the story doesn’t mention it.

Here in the US it would be prominently displayed right down to what “local” was involved.

Canada quashed the rail strike by ordering the parties to settle it in arbitration instead of a strike. Any chance india does the same thing here?
