Just got this from Pirate Ship. This is going to hurt. From 50 cents on Media to over $3 on some things.
Booksellers prepare for higher prices as well!
Here is the USPS announcement …
New Prices for July 2024 (Release in April 2024)
You can get an excel file of all prices here.
Some conflicting info …
2024 Postage Price Change
… from this page we see the following …
Non published commercial rates (that PirateShip, Amazon, etc get) may be changing but those are negotiated rates and not part of the standard USPS and or commercial USPS rates found on the USPS site. It’s probably time for PirateShip, Amazon, etc. to renegotiate with USPS for those special commercial rates that we see using their sites. It wouldn’t surprise us if USPS was trying to eliminate these as a way to drive people to USPS site where the commercial pricing is available anyway.
I see that conflicting information you pointed out. For my small but somewhat growing FBM, I saw on the spreadsheet that the GA prices aren’t changing…which is consistent with the USPS verbiage.
I can handle the MM rate change as I’ll just jack everything up by approximately 65-70 cents. I’m just glad GA isn’t changing. I didn’t raise my prices when GA increased the last time but I would have been forced to do it this time. I’m not looking to run a not-for-profit here.
Heavenly days-and customers ask why our prices are going up!! It’s USPS, stupid-to coin a phrase from Bush '41!
Pretty soon, gonna be cheaper to climb into our SUV and make a day-trip; hand-deliver any ARIZONA or NM order. Oh, yeah, AMZ doesn’t want us to do that either!!
We have, since 2017, had free shipping on most of our items (all books, CDs and DVDs), but with this increase we’re going to add a shipping charge for our heavier books. Bound Printed Matter is increasing by just under 6 percent, according to my research. Of course, we don’t know yet what rates have been negotiated by AZ, eBay etc., or if they have negotiated at all.
I have not been able to determine with 100 percent certainty whether Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes are increasing or if it’s only weight-based PM that’s going up.
I think if Amazon and eBay really played hardball with USPS they could get better deals for their sellers (and therefore their buyers, too).
We ship “Free” too but am gonna increase the “free” pricing on heavier books by 10-15% of the current price (if don’t run into price alerts).
We used to be 85% “Free”, adding shipping to our oversize books, of which we have an astounding amount of long-tails(next to cull). Adding anywhere from $3.99 to 5.99 to price delayed sales by 9-18 months. Could also be they’re large/heavy or coffee table books have gone out of style, even though have beautiful illustrations.
AMZ customers are so spoiled, demanding free shipping. We’ll see how it goes!!
Here is the Ebay version of the announcement

With most my sales GA under 1 lb it appears I will still on the average break even on shipping unless I am inundated with orders from CA, OR and WA.
Somedays it feels like they are ordering from me just to annoy me. Ebay charges its FVF on sales tax and the difference in shipping cost combined with the sales tax amount annoys me more than sales to NY
Ha! I get your feeling. I get too many orders on the bay for CA and WA. Can’t afford to lose them so I just raise my prices when I need to.
Haven’t had to raise prices for awhile now. Cost of inventory has stabilized for me so I’m wary to raise prices too much. I did adjust my marketing to apply volume pricing for two or more (instead of 3 or more like prior years) so I am hoping that will drive multi-unit sales (especially to west coast).
I could complain about the cost of shipping GA to zone 8/9 but no one would listen, so what’s the point?
Just an update since I’m printing labels for shipping tomorrow (Monday) and the costs are the same as they were on Saturday.
Hopefully @Lost_My_Marbles has nailed it and nothing will change for my Stamps/Endicia/Dazzle costs.
Of course another shoe drops on 7/14 for Media Mail that means I need to jack up a few hundred book offers!
We printed our labels also and nothing has changed on Amazon Buy Shipping for us either. All GA under 1lb and Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes were the same.
With that being said, it does appear that USPS is in the processing of negotiating new special commercial prices with all of their vendors. With PirateShip and eBay already announcing changes, we would think that other USPS vendors will follow soon.
I see today that USPS Flat Rate Envelopes have increased to $8.18 today on Amazon, and Padded Flat Rate Envelopes are $8.95. We use those for expedited book/media orders.
Well, I noticed that I am paying a lot more for my GA even though the post office said it wasn’t raising rates. Using stamps.com. ![]()
We have not seen any increase with PirateShip. In fact I shipped a 14lb box yesterday and got an incredible rate of $9.59 GA cubic that even beat UPS.

Probably GA Cubic Rate. Not all sites support this rate. Amazon has for a while. Ebay added it recently.
I get the cubic rate for anything over 1 lb but still sucks that under 1 lb went up for me.
