JS Bach was originally buried in the cemetery attached to Johanniskirche in Leipzig (Church of St. John). This area was heavily bombed in 1943.
Supposedly, during the bombardment, a grounds keeper took Bach’s skeleton in a wheelbarrow across town to Thomaskirche (Church of St. Thomas) and wheeled the remains through the nave until he caught the attention of the pastor, who was in the middle of a sermon. “I have Herr Bach here…Please take care of him.”
