More Surface Feight And Shipping "Notes"

News from the world of shipping for those who sling pallets around the planet, and change languages 3 times on one phone call…

  1. Golden Week In China Is Taking Place October 1st-7th, Causing Factory Closures That May Disrupt Supply Chains, Increase Demand. And Raise Shipping Costs, Requiring Businesses To Plan Ahead.

  2. An Explosion On The Yang Ming Vessel Has Closed Ningbo Port, Worsening Delays At Major Asian Ports. The Congestion Is Expected To Persist, Particularly As Demand Peaks In North America And Europe.

  3. The International Longshoremen’s Association Threatens Potential Strikes Along The U.s. East Coasts, Threatening Delays In Cargo Handling That Could Further Impact Industries That Depend On These Critical Ports.

And THIS came into the port of New York (actually, Elizabeth, NJ) today.

Sailing schooners were fast, and that made them profitable in both fishing and cargo, even though their capacity was limited. The most famous of the last of them was the Bluenose, which struck a reef off Isle aux Vache, Haiti on 28 January 1946, and sank.
Now, sail is back for cargo, as costs are lower, and pollution is nill.

I’d probably be willing to pay an even-greater premium than I already do for cognac delivered to this Hither Shore by that handsome vessel, Anemos (not to be confused with the Passenger/RO-RO cargo carrier of the same name (link, Vessel Finder)).

Good show, TOWT (link, Home page).

Jolly-good show.

Yeah, I intend to book cargo with them if I can, just for the zero-carbon-footprint bragging rights!
