Etsy says on its website that it is committed to helping shoppers avoid higher prices caused by U.S. President Donald Trump’s widespread tariffs, including duties of 145% on goods from China. President Trump has also signed an executive order to end the de minimis provision, a loophole for low-value shipments often used by online businesses such as Etsy, starting on May 2 of this year.
What exactly is it that they plan to do to be sure your things come from somewhere local? Are they going to vet sellers? Become a juried marketplace? lol nothing will change. It’s only now that “shop local” is trending and of course they are going to go all in on this but what really is “local”? As far as I can tell the purchase protection program is supposed to cover the tariff issues but that’s just a “fix” to support sellers when a problem has already happened. That doesn’t help buyers who want to shop local.
I’ve bought stuff on Etsy from the United States and it’s come from China lol.
Same old song and dance. Just a bunch of word salad but no actual changes
I am sure that eventually you will see sellers stop shipping from China to the United States but it won’t be because of anything Etsy has done lol.
