Mystery Brand Showing Up on My Account

I am overhauling my listings and downloaded the Categories report. When I go in there to update things, there is a foreign brand in the dropdown. This brand does not belong to us.

I have reported it to Seller Support and asked them to remove it. I have checked my account, and everything looks right and unmolested.

I have two-step verification on the account to our phone numbers and an attached authentication app. I have also just required all logins to require one-time passwords (OTP) at log in.

This is particularly worrisome because I just had to get Seller Support to fix an issue with one of my SKUs where the category changed from a supplement category to DOWNLOADABLE_TV_SEASON.

  1. Has anyone else ever had something like this happen to them?
  2. Is there anything else you would suggest we check or do to protect the account in case this is a hacking attempt?

If you go to the ASIN in seller central does it show the correct brand or does it match the report?

It shows the correct brand and the foreign one doesn’t even show up as an option there.

ok, wait 24 hours and download the report again.

Sloppy Amazon code may be the issue here, the same thing happens when we link to the NSFE, the page title sometimes shows up as script.

I tried to edit my original post, but for some reason, it would not let me edit it.

To clarify: The correct brand is also listed. The foreign one is listed below the brand that is actually registered to my account.

Copy the incorrect brand and go to the Report a Violation tool. Put the incorrect brand in the search box and search. Look for any item that you would have a listing of and check to see if you have an offer on that item with that brand name.

It only takes one item to be hijacked for the incorrect brand to show up in your category specific excel template.

We also would check back in 24 hours or so as Amazon made an announcement about everyone needing to download new templates as of December 11, 2024. Today being that day, there is that possiblity that there are glitches in this roll out.

December 4, 2023

December 7, 2023 - This article has been updated for the following reason: A URL was changed

Changes to listing requirements to improve the shopping experience

Starting December 11, 2023, the requirements to create listings will change for all products in Amazon’s worldwide stores (1750 types) except those from media, digital and handmade categories. Impacted product types and attributes are available in this spreadsheet.

These updates will reduce listing errors caused when attributes are required but may not be marked as “required” when you list a product. The changes are also designed to help customers make more informed purchase decisions.

Important note: Your existing listings won’t be affected.

These changes will apply when you create a new listing. When you edit an existing listing, you may be asked to provide additional information to meet the new requirements. You can continue to update your prices and inventory levels using the Manage Inventory page, or price and quantity templates, as usual.

The following changes will gradually roll out to all sellers between December 11, 2023 and February 1, 2024:

  • Add Products: As the changes roll out, sellers who use the “Add Products” page will see updated requirements when they create or edit listings. Note: If you see a required attribute that isn’t relevant for your product, alert us by hovering over the “?” next to the attribute and selecting the “Irrelevant attribute” option. The team will use this feedback to determine if the attribute should be made optional or removed.
  • Add Products via Upload: From December 11, all sellers who use “Add Products via Upload” can choose to upgrade to new listing templates with updated attribute requirements. When you select a product category for your listing, you’ll see a banner with a link to download the new template. However, we will continue to accept listing submissions using templates with the previous requirements. To download the previous template, click the toggle button on the top right of the banner. We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice on the Add Products via Upload page before the updated template becomes the default option.

We welcome your feedback on these updates and will monitor Seller Forums for reports of any issues.

For more information, go to Updated attributes within the Add Products and Add Products via Upload interface.

Thanks for that information! I feel really dumb, but I can’t seem to find the Report a Violation Tool. I did put the brand into the main catalog search box and am not seeing anything showing up. I guess that is a positive.

I hope is just a glitch like you suggested.

Is your brand in Brand Registry? … One needs to be in Brand Registry to have access to the Report a Violation tool

Yep, my brand is Brand Registry. I did hear back from Seller Support, and evidently, the additional Brand is the Arabic translation of my main brand. It isn’t a hack attempt. It is just a bad programming issue evidently

So your brand is showing up on one of the Arabic marketplaces where you probably don’t sell products.

This is an incredibly decisive and quick response from seller support, kinda shocked!

A very similar thing happened to us, with a different cause.

In our case, a seller in Japan was using our UPC codes on their unrelated products, and some of their data was getting merged into and overwriting our info. It took a number of tickets and phone calls with Amazon Japan to get it resolved.

It’s a transliteration not a translation.

Definitely digging the booty stuff

While I don’t have an international account, I did opt-in to allow Amazon to buy my products to sell globally. Using a VPN and going over to Amazon.ae, I can see some of our products listed over there, so their explanation makes a bit more sense now.

I was pretty shocked, too. They even surprised me yesterday too. Took them less than 24 hours to resolve the issue with one of my SKUs where the category changed from a supplement category to DOWNLOADABLE_TV_SEASON. I didn’t even have to fight them to pass it on to a team that could actually deal with it. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket because I seem to be getting kind of lucky lately
