I received a message this morning from a buyer with just a screenshot of the order.
I responded asking for more information, because a screenshot of the order tells me nothing.
They then responded with a message doing the old switch an address after ordering thing, which I told them no but they can cancel and reorder.
The weird part:
They sent a screenshot of the message typed twice on repeat and sent that.
Though it does look like it was sent from their end…I received a phone screenshot of the message.
The phone was running QB Workforce app (I looked up the green logo at the top) that records time tracking.
I cancelled the order due to issues with the delivery address, but this overall was just really odd.
Has anyone seen something like this? Idk if I am being paranoid or if they are just a senior trying to order on eBay (we do have niche items seniors buy).
I think @Pepper solved it:
QuickBooks Workforce—an app for QuickBooks Payroll and QuickBooks Time (formerly TSheets)—lets teams view pay info and track time in one place.
It would be sad if a senior has to resort to this type of ‘work’
I would have sent to the new address. Ebay will protect you if the buyer states in messages they want it sent to a new address and you send it to that address. Seems scammers don’t know this. Or maybe they do…but don’t realize they will be scamming Ebay, not the seller.
But will they protect you if its a picture of the message as the address change? That was my initial thought since most stuff is automated now, if they can’t scan the text then it is less likely to win.
We call EBay Concierge when we have issues and just talk to someone. I don’t leave anything up to automated means. They still should cover you regardless.
Very true but online marketplaces don’t pay me enough to sniff through messages and investigate whether a message might be a scam or not. We do sometimes get messages about a buyer needing to switch addresses and it’s very rare to ever experience issues with them after.
As long as I know I’ll be protected by that marketplace, I’m shipping the order. With that being said, I know Amazon won’t cover these if the buyer asks for an address change in a message, so I would tell an Amazon customer to cancel and reorder with the new address. Ebay is way different on this.
eBay used to not be, and I usually don’t have an issue changing the address if someone sent a message.
The first message was a screenshot of the order. They replied about 10 hours later of a screenshot of the message entered twice. Never sent any messages, only screenshots. Very sus on an account with 1 feedback from 3 years ago. I think an account was hacked, but not normal behavior of any customer.
This…is bizarre. For me, everything from this point that was not “oh lol I’m so sorry fat fingers” etc would be bathed in my pre-disbelief.
Back in the '90s there was a Dilbert strip where (I believe?) Dilbert told Dogbert that “today I started hating people in advance”. And that is my customer service philosophy in some cases.
