Just want to give a heads up. I received an email that was sent from Michaels with this message:
“Automatic notification A user has purchased one of your items! However, to complete the transaction, you need to verify your account. Please complete the verification process within 1 hour to prevent the transaction from being cancelled. To continue, copy the link in bold and paste it into your browser’s address bar. Then follow the further instructions: (There was a link which I deleted for here). If you do not complete this process, your account will be suspended! Kind regards, Michaels Makerplace Support”
It was obivious a scam phishing for info. Deleted it and logged into my MP dashboard, and there was the same message there. The “Report Message” system there didn’t work, kept telling me “Something went wrong, try again later”. I had to email MakerPlace to report this message.
Got the same message and “Report Message” did not work for me either. What a dumpster fire. I’m not paying much attention to Michael’s and I would quit, but an order still trickles in every now and then.
I got it too, AND it was my first order ever! Almost fell off my chair.
It was done very well and if you never shipped an order on Maker Place, it all made sense. They wanted me to verify my account so I could see my new order, my first order.
I have seen a lot of phishing stuff over the years, it was well connected to Marker Place from my chair. I reported it to them by email, (Michaels email support system) the response was boiler plate.
I actually played with them this morning. We had a card with a suspicions charge, not related to this. So I had to cancel that card and order a new one. Just before I did that connected with the perp website. And went through the process, With plenty of protection in place.
Reminded me of “Boys put on your rubbers” where the team put prophylactics over the gun barrel before going out on patrol.
I will do a screen capture of the chat with them when I can, very fascinating. Again, it looked and was wound into Michals in a very authentic way. It made sense to me since we had not ever sold anything we would have to provide our credit card.
As far as reporting, we always “view all headers” on email, so I have all those on file too.
We signed up when it was free and never got a single sale. We did get 4-6 emails a day trying to sell us something on Michals. Anyone else notice they ALWAYS have coupons. I hate that.
I love doing this to “you must click here to keep your email” scams.
Private browser, modify the url slightly to break tracking, then start entering fake emails and passwords. Passwords tend to have non pg words in them, lol.
Slowing down the scammers with bad data helps everyone
I didn’t see the email until 3 hours later. My first reaction was annoyance “WTF 1 hour???” Then I saw the extraneous exclamation points, and got even more annoyed. Another grammatically challenged idiot scammer yawn.
