Order to Canada with no sales tax paid

I’m just curious. I received an order from a customer in New Brunswick that shows they paid no sales tax whatsoever. I know this is not my problem (if there even is one), but I just find it odd. The order has the cost of the book plus my shipping charge and nothing else. Perhaps it’s because, like here in the U.S., some organizations or people are exempt from GST?

I googled your question out of curiosity and found New Brunswick residents pay an HST tax which is a combination of sales tax and GST. Supposedly the rate varies (up to 15%) based on shipping and the value of the item purchased.

From Google search …

For a Canadian ordering from Amazon, it is rare to have no GST, as most items are taxable by law. However, an order may be exempt from GST in a few specific circumstances, most commonly when purchasing zero-rated products or when the seller is a non-resident of Canada.

That might explain it. The book was under $10, plus shipping. I don’t usually sell things that cheaply but this was old, old stock.
