These items come packaged 5 to a bag, the bag is a ziplock bag.
When we ship out more than 5 we take the receipt and put it in the ziplock bag
This person ordered 7.
The order was picked up from the local PO by the College mail service. The next day we get a message that the package was empty.
Google the address, find out it’s a college. Check the tracking, find out it was picked up which means the have a mail distribution center. There is also no exception noted in the tracking (only took 3 days to get to the destination). Tell them they can file a claim with USPS if the damage happened by USPS
Tell them they will have to contact their mail distribution center. they send pictures of what looks like a package that was opened by a person and the contents removed. No “we’re sorry” envelope from USPS plus some how the receipt magically came out of the ziplock bag and was the only thing in the package.
Explain this to them again. Then they claim they went to USPS and the employee there said this happens all the time and that I need to tell the buyer how to report it. My indication that something happened a the mail center was baseless “multiple people saw the damaged package come out of the USPS box”
So again I tell them I obtained all the information I reported to them from the local USPS manager (I actually have his cell phone). Had him check the additional tracking that isn’t public and there is no indication of damage.
They can feel free to file a claim with USPS and they will need the packaging for the report. ( I know for a fact USPS is going to say, where is the “We’re sorry” envelope. There is no indication the issue happened while USPS had possession of the package. ) I also told them if the damage happened when it was in USPS possession then multiple employees failed to report it, including the person who scanned it when it was picked up.
I didn’t tell them that USPS is right, this does happen all the time by college mail distribution.
Yes I did report the message as the customer is trying to defraud me.
College mail distribution at some colleges leaves packages unattended. Wonder what might happen.
There was a time that one of my companies would not ship to any college addressee which was not part of the institution. No students or faculty members. Libraries, academic departments were ok.
I have had a couple with college deliveries. My favorite one was a ‘buyer’ that said they never got the item despite showing delivered. Checked with the mail room (amazing that I got someone) and they said the buyer had picked up the package. Hmmmm.
I let him know that they said he picked it up and he proceeded to go off about being a third year law student and just wait…
I proceeded to let him know that I had sent a letter to the Dean of the Law School with all the information suggesting that MAYBE he shouldn’t be allowed in an actual Law School.
Never heard another word. Maybe I should have actually mailed the envelope that I had ready…
It always amazes me when people think that mentioning a lawyer on a basically trivial matter is going to be impressive.
My favorite (not Amazon) was when I worked in a retail wine shop in NYC. A customer called about being double charged on an order; not that uncommon of a thing, sometimes would happen when the internet glitched. All I have to do is take down their name and the order date, give it to the IT guy, and it gets taken care of.
But this woman would NOT shut up long enough for me to explain; kept going on about how we were ripping her off, she wanted the refund NOW, and I needed to do something about it, yadda, yadda, yadda. Then before I could say “All I need is your name and the date”, she broke in with “My husband is one of the most important lawyers in the city…”
So instead of simply taking care of it, I explained (making it all up) “once you mention legal action, this has to be handled by a manager; I can’t do anything more. You’ll have to speak to the manager, who has already left, and will be back next Tuesday.”
She of course went into “can’t you do something now” to which I explained again “no, once you mention any sort of legal action, it can be handled ONLY by a manager”
Told the whole story to my manager when he got back in; he made no rush whatsoever to call the woman back.
