Passkey problems?

Until this evening, I could always log into Amazon on my phone using my fingerprint and the 2FA. Tonight, it would not let me use my fingerprint. It automatically tells me “your encrypted data is locked on this device.” I can’t do anything except go back and enter my password manually, which works.

I have tried deleting the passkey in the Amazon Seller account, but to no avail. That screen is locked with respect to editing or deleting any and all passkeys. Just want to stop it from locking my phone screen every time I want to sign in.

Dioes anyone have advice?

It appears others may have experienced this also as a Google search for “AMAZON USE OF PASSKEY LOCKS UP PHONE SCREEN” returns the following …

AI Overview

When Amazon’s passkey sign-in locks up your phone screen, it’s often a sync glitch, a blocked number/contact issue, or a conflict with saved passphrases (especially Chrome sync), requiring you to

clear app cache/data, restart the phone, verify your account details, or even reset Chrome sync passphrase to resolve the issue and regain seamless login.

Common Fixes:

  1. Check Amazon Account Settings:
  • Go to Amazon.com > Login & Security > Passkeys and ensure settings are correct or delete/re-add the passkey.
  1. Restart Your Phone: A simple restart often clears temporary glitches.
  2. Check Network & Blocked Numbers: Make sure you have good Wi-Fi/data and that Amazon’s SMS number isn’t blocked in your phone settings.
  3. Clear App Data/Cache (Android): Go to your phone’s Settings > Apps > Amazon > Storage > Clear Cache & Clear Data to reset the app’s state.
  4. Reset Chrome Sync Passphrase (If applicable): If you’ve used advanced sync settings, resetting your Chrome sync passphrase can fix passkey issues by clearing data from Google’s servers and forcing a fresh sync.
  5. Use Another Device/Method: If the passkey method fails, use a different device or the password/OTP option if available to sign in and manage settings.

Why It Happens:

  • Sync Conflicts: Your phone might be struggling to sync passkey data with Amazon or Google’s systems.
  • Browser Issues: Specific browser or device limitations can cause problems with passkey functionality.
  • Account Hold: If your account is on hold for security reasons, it can restrict access to services, including login methods.

If these steps don’t work, Amazon Customer Service can offer guided help to regain access.

Thanks. I did try those things, but it is impossible to delete the passkey from the Amazon account. The trashcan is there, but clicking it does nothing.

I did find a solution, just now. I deleted the passkey from my phone. They did not make it easy to find. As soon as I deleted it, my fingerprint worked.
