Passkey verification for Seller Central sign-in is coming on December 2

Starting December 2, 2025, to improve Seller Central account security and to maintain our commitment to a trustworthy selling experience, we’re encouraging the use of Passkey verification for all accounts. This change is to increase the security of your account and to remain in line with industry standards.

A Passkey is a password-free sign-in method that uses your device’s identification features (fingerprint, face scan) or PIN to protect your account with end-to-end encryption.

Passkey verification offers the following benefits:

  • Stronger security than two-step verification
  • End-to-end inscription, making your account safe from data breaches
  • Quick access using your device’s built-in features
  • Seamless login across multiple devices
  • Compatible with major browsers and Amazon apps

We strongly recommend setting up Passkey now for a more secure and seamless sign-in experience.

To set up Passkey verification:

  1. Go to Login Settings.
  2. Select Set Up next to Passkey.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

For more information, go to About Passkey and the Passkey Verification Frequently Asked Questions.

… and from the About Passkey link referenced above …

About Passkey

Passkeys are a convenient and secure way to sign in to your Amazon account without using a password.

To view in your preferred language, locate the country flag on the top banner and use the drop down to select the language.

With passkeys, you can sign in to your Amazon account by simply using your face, fingerprint, or the PIN that you use to unlock your device. You will not need to provide your Amazon password to sign in.

Passkeys are secure and convenient sign in options as they:

  • Work on most major platforms and browsers. For example, iPhones, Android phones, Apple and Windows desktops.
  • Are end-to-end encrypted. Your passkeys and biometric information are never shared with Amazon, making your account safe from phishing attacks or data breaches.
  • Allow you to still use your Amazon password to sign in, if you prefer.

How to Enable Passkeys

To enable passkeys:

  1. In Your Account, select Login & security.
  2. Select Set up beside Passkeys.
  3. Select Set up.
  4. Follow the simple on-screen instructions to complete the set up.

Once a passkey is enabled, it is saved to your passkey-provider account, like your Apple ID or Google account or Windows Hello account. You will be able to sign in with the passkey on all your devices associated with that account.

Note: You can only create one passkey per passkey provider. Some browsers may have limited passkey functionality.

If you need help with setting up a passkey on another device or for another passkey-provider account, visit Use Passkey on Multiple Devices.

Important: To create and use passkeys, your device will need to meet one of these minimum software requirements (if applicable).

  • iOS 16
  • macOS BigSur
  • Android 9
  • Windows 11

You will also need to use the latest browser version.

When signing in to another Amazon marketplace from your browser (for example, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.in)(for example, Amazon.com, Amazon.in)(for example, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com), you will need to set up a new passkey or sign in normally using your Amazon password.

For help with deleting your Amazon passkey, visit Delete a Passkey.

To learn more about passkeys specific to your device or browser, refer to passkey support provided by your device maker. For example, Google or Apple.

Thanks for postong that. I missed it on SC “Seller News”.

Does “encouraging the use of Passkey” means it’s not something that’s required? That whole article didn’t say using Passkey will be the only way to do verification

I haven’t had to do verification since 12/2. What I want to know is whether using Passkey will be the only way for verification, or whether we’ll still be able to do the 2 step verification with getting a code on our cell phone?

Can’t say but we remember there was a member on SAS who has been using the PassKey function. Hopefully, they will read and respond.

Our basic guess would be that Amazon would set it up to be part of the sign-on option because you would need like a 2 Factor sign in available if you needed access remotely or in the event of a computer that had been reprogrammed / rebuilt.

@Dreamscape-Studio … it doesn’t appear to be functional yet … setup button doesn’t work and neither do any of the info drop downs …

For course, Amazon just put that out to give us headach/heart attack.

Anyway, I’m not going to change or set up for it unless I have to do it. I’m fine with the 2 step verification right now.

Proofreading is obviously not Amazon’s strong suit:

“End-to-end inscription”

That should be encryption. Wrong word, wrong spelling. Errors like that do not inspire confidence, especially in a notice about securing one’s account. This longtime professional writer and editor says spelling and grammar still count.

I guess an end-to-end inscription in a book would have something written on every single page.

I’ve been getting popup prompts to set it up for a few weeks while using seller central…. Haven’t done it yet.

Hmmmm I’ve been using a passkey for over a year now on my SC account. Problem is I still have to use 2 factor so it’s still a pain. I suppose I could turn off 2 factor since passkey is nearly unbreakable, but with 2 factor enabled it’s still a a pain even with an authenticator app.

Same here. I’ve been getting the option to sign in with a passkey for a while but get a prompt to enter the authenticator code every time, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Can answer this question myself now. Had to do a verification today, and the usual 2 step getting the code way is still working.

Did notice there is another button for using Passkey on the same page. Didn’t touch it.

Same boat, That and it asked me for my Auth app 3x in a row.
Initial login
Going to login settings
Set up pass key then dead end

Since it mentions you can still sign in with your password even with passkey, I wouldn’t. Your account is only as secure as the least secure login option.
