Something is definitely fishy…maybe too many 3Ps have been unimpressed with their primeday efforts in the past? Not enough ROI? Or maybe Amazon is acknowledging a slow down in domestic transport, due to fuel costs and oil shortages?
I don’t care about Prime Day because I don’t need a deal to get the sales lift. The increased traffic to the site by itself increases everything.
If I needed to juice up my sales rank in a big way or liquidate some inventory, this is the day for it. I might also lower prices on other sites so that the prime day deal shoppers get redirected to channels where I need the help.
But putting my stuff on the Prime Day deals so it can sit among a hundred pages of other things with higher %off deals makes no sense. We’ve done it in the past, but it doesn’t make a huge impact on us.
I suspect that USPS employees will be pressuring their employer to give them the day off so that they can shop for bargains.
USPS management will, of course, reflexively refuse.
Then there will be a slow increase in accidents caused by USPS drivers, as they get distracted from the road while shopping on their phones. It will probably take several years of this before
USPS management decides that it is statistically significant.
Management will also observe that a few days afterwards there is a surge of extra packages that they must handle. This will be further complicated by the regular yearly bulge in employees taking sick leave to recover from the injuries suffered in the aforementioned accidents.
So USPS management will do the only reasonable thing left to them: they will petition congress for another holiday. They will call it ‘Shopping Day’.
Congress critters will need only consider this for a few seconds, for many of them will be aware that they too are suffering the effects of employees who don’t show up on Shopping Day. And they are always in favor of any excuse for another paid holiday for themselves.
Someday soon, USPS will list this as an official holiday. You heard it here first.
