Promotions Budget Question

I am starting to use Amazon Promotions on my page to offer discounts on multiple quantity purchases.

I am puzzled about the budget you set for promotions…am I being charged for running a promotion? I understand bids/clicks/budgets for typical Amazon ads, but I don’t understand the budget thing for a Promotion…any clarification would help. Is the budget tracking how much in discounts you have given out with the promotion?

Also, today I noticed one of my ads stopped because I had run out of the $100 I had set. Don’t they let us know somehow that this has occured? I just stumbled upon it because a buyer made a large purchase and the discount wasn’t applied.

Yes. I think budget for promotion or Coupon works the same way, in theory when the total discount (plus fee in case of coupon) reach 80% the system would shut down the promotion/coupon.

They used to but not anymore, and that goes for Ad campaigns running out of budget as well.

Sort of strange that they stopped since I am sure some sellers would up their campaigns based on the email and Amazon would line their pockets some more.

For coupons you plan to run for a certain period, and are comfortable selling however many units as possible, just put a big budget in there.

You’re only spending when you make a sale, vs. non-conversion clicks with advertising. Makes things easier (set it and forget it), and no missed opportunities.

Back in February or March of this year, Amazon changed some of the parameters around doing coupons and made it a pain in the azz to get a coupon up and running (if you even could). It revolved around whether or not Amazon recognized your item having a reference price.

We gave up trying to run coupons because of that. Never found a solution.

The only coupon I’m able to set up now is for brand new items, which don’t have any sales history or rating or proven reference price, but Amazon is allowing coupon for them. Those coupon do get suppressed when the listing is about 3 month old.
