As a Los Angeles native I know what earthquakes feel like.
That was an earthquake.

Last one had to be 15- 20 years ago here. Nothing major but not a thing we normally get.

I remember one in the NY area around 10-12 years ago.

We all just saw there was one, but we didn’t feel anything here in the Albany area, but others are saying they did.

I’m on Long Island and we definitely felt it here.

Yes! The room was shaking and I thought of the possible need to get away from some floor to ceiling bookcases.

Earthquakes are an interesting thing. It’s a “natural disaster” that’s 99% man made. The ground shaking for a bit isn’t inherently dangerous in itself, it’s all the man made structures collapsing on top of you that is the real danger.

Felt it here in Bucks County PA. not too far from you in NY.

Yep, felt it in northern NJ (Bergen County). Just finishing up chores before getting ready to head to see the eclipse. Thought it was vicious wind at first, but looked out and saw trees not moving; and it didn’t stop.

Cats freaked out. Pumpkin seems okay now (more bothered by seeing luggage; knows we’re leaving him); Magic is still in hiding 30 minutes later.

Absolutely true. We had the opportunity to go see Machu Picchu back about 40 years ago and they still had some of the ruins from a quake that destroyed the massive churches that the Spaniards built in to late 1500’s.

On the other hand the really ancient structures that had been built by all those ‘ignorant, uneducated natives’ were still there and just fine after probably 1000 years.

Those structures are a true engineering marvel. They are designed so that when the earth shakes they actually move tighter and become even stronger instead of falling apart.

It was impressive to see Cuzco and other places down there. The Shining Path had blown up power transmission towers about a week before we arrived so we ALMOST spent our time in Lima in the dark!

Yup. Felt it!

The 2011 quake was worse than this in terms of feeling it although less on the scale.

The light poles in the parking lot were violently shaking, as was the building.

My security cameras didn’t even pick this one up but we felt it. Was worse on the south shore, according to my Dad. I’m up north.

Honestly, sounded like a truck driving by so I thought nothing of it (I was in a building next to a major US route at the time)

2011 I saw more cause I was in a building with hanging light fixtures and they swayed

Was the 2011 earthquake you mentioned the one in Astoria, Queens?

Lived in LA … 70’s when the VA hospital collapsed … 90’s when the freeway collapsed … 80’s was on a roof when one hit and watched the ground and houses roll like a wave in the ocean … also 80’s worked in grocery stores and saw the shelves swing back and forth emptying all the stock onto the floor ( a wonderful mess one can only imagine ).

It was a 5.8 centered in VA. I was in Holbrook at the time working for Nature’s Bounty. It was really bad out there. I thought I was having a stroke or something until I looked out the window and saw the parking lot light polls shaking like a leaf. I was filling out a birthday card for a co-worker at the time. I’ll never forget that one.
