Amazon is already at this point IMO. They make changes to the site or how back end works and it throws something else off completely. I assume there are no comments on MOST of amazon code.
Yeah very doubtful that much is annotated or explained in detail.
Most coders are annotating for themselves if they do write anything at all.
It is just meant to help them remember what things do while they make the application.
Good luck being able to remember months or years later what you meant.
I have firsthand experience with this as I wrote dozens of LISP routines to automate AutoCAD. If I ever had to edit something with multiple functions it would take me a while to really remember how it all worked together.
Even the best annotated and curated code is difficult for someone new to it to modify.
I do have some code that I have broken a few times over the years thinking I donât need that line. I have more then one âDONâT EVEN THINK ABOUT TOUCHING THISâ Sections in my current code set to prevent self implosions, lol
I spent years avoiding working for defense contractors because of personal convictions.
On my very last job as an employee, I wound up working for a retired Air Force General, who proved to be the very best boss I had in my career. And who negotiated a great settlement when I decided to resign and go into business for myself.
We do many things which are based on our values, but that does not make them right, and does not justify affecting the lives of others, including jeopardizing their jobs.
If you work for others, you accept the risks of layoffs, and the need to agree to protect their trade secrets and private information. If you donât want to do that, donât take their money.
Iâve put my money where my mouth is many, many times, and will continue to do so.
Those non-compete go well beyond the âtrade secretsâ and âprivate informationâ.
The one they wanted us to sign basically was saying that we could not practice HVAC design engineering if we left.
As said, good luck getting that to stick in a court of law, but it is enough of a deterrent for another firm to hire someone to avoid just the threat of litigation.
Only if you were foolish enough to make them aware of it.
I signed many of those agreements, all unenforceable.
ALRIGHT, we are all going in circles. Time to exit and get back on topic
You spin me right round, baby, right round
Like a record, baby, right round, round, round
A Brazilian record?

... and then there is this ...
Be thankful yours is a 33 as @Pepper_Thine_Angus likes that warp speed 78 stuff âŠ
What do they call Brazil nuts in Brazil?
Major Reveal
Deez Nuts
Sort of on topic. Amazon just hit an all-time high in afterhours trading. Strong QTR.
I have to say that this Jassey quote is a bit unsettlingâŠ.
Advertising was another bright spot. Sales increased 24% from a year earlier to $17.7 billion. The company has been placing greater emphasis on sponsored product listings and finding new spaces for higher ad volume, such as Echo Show screens and hi-tech grocery shopping carts.
If they move to the Walmart model, a lot of us are going to be effedâŠ
Amazon has always claimed to be laser-focused on the customer. Showing the customer junk they really donât want for the sake of even more $ doesnât fit that mold. But Jeff is gone so and $ is the objective.
Pretty humorous about all this AWS greatness, a week after it crashed 30% of the net.
I meanâŠtheyâre probably in âprivate equityâ mode: focus on the money making at the expense of anything else.
And in Amazonâs case, maybe that means that actually selling things is now secondary to selling the ads so that others maybe or maybe not sell the things. ![]()
Thatâs really the only profitable unit of retail for Amazon, if you dig deep into the reports.
Everyone claims that FBA fees are killing them and they are too high. FBA is a loss leader for Amazon, an expenseâŠ
IDK anyone that can get one of our bottles to a customer, anywhere in the country, same or next day - pick, pack, ship, packaging materials for $3.74
I imagine the drivers have to be on your pills in order to be that efficient. ROFLOL
(Notice I did not go the blue pill route on this one and did a meth reference instead)
Yeah the backlash from that has been swift and LOUD.
Amazon is currently testing how deep they can go ad wise. They are going deeper in Prime video too, and it is turning people off. Think more commercials per hour then over the air tv!
Yes they are getting the income right now, but once advertisers figure out that there is no ROI, those $$$ are going to stop.
This is true at the moment.

Siri overhearing me complain about FBA fees - âWould you like for me to set up a subscribe and save for Astroglide?â
Thatâs good because we prefer those drivers keep their hands on the wheel.

I donât either, and that is one of the major accomplishments of Amazon, and I donât think it is a loss leader, I think it makes a modest profit or did when I last analyzed the financial report.
It has taken a whole lot of effort to herd the Amazon sellers using FBA in a way that it could become a profitable service. And many have resisted, because it cost them money, and time. And because it requires sellers actually manage their inventory.
There are people with paradoxical reactions, but on average we donât want them asleep at the wheel! ![]()
If AMAZON could manage a Sellerâs inventory competently, they would be able to keep the âherdâ enrolled in FBA.
