I worked with a guy where, at his previous employer, an A/B email was sent to all employees. Those receiving the A version were directed to one conference room while those receiving the B version were directed to another conference room. Those in the A group were getting laid-off while those in the B group would hear about what was happening to the A group.
This guy I mentioned wasn’t big on checking email, so when a coworker told him about an all-hands meeting, he just followed him to the conference room where the A group was gathering. Meeting starts, CEO comes in to drop the hammer, and notices this guy is in the wrong room. “Uh, Zack, you’re supposed to be in the other conference room.” Still clueless, he gets up and goes to join Group B, only then finding out what was up. ![]()
