Selling books on Walmart.com via WFS?

@WALMART.COM_EXPERT

I hope you can help me find the answer to one question.

We are registered with Walmart and actively sell our products as WFS, but the problem is that we can’t convert our books for WFS.

We work with a brand that makes unique piano books, we see that other sellers are able to sell products with an identical category in WFS, but we have been told by support that this category is open only for self fulfilled.

Perhaps you can tell us what are the requirements to open this category for WFS? We are ready to provide any documents.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards, Dmytro

Let me take a look for you. What’s your Seller Display name?

Hi @profugocreator and welcome to SellersAskSellers! I moved your post out of the other thread and into its own topic, in case other Sellers had the same question. I didn’t want it to get overlooked or buried.

Hope you and @WALMART.COM_EXPERT can keep us updated!

Adding to this that discussions involving Seller Display Names (PI), should be discussed via PM only to maintain the integrity of our key mission on this forum - PRIVACY…

@profugocreator is a new member and does not have access to PM’s yet, but yes in general I agree

To all users new and old, no matter your “trust level” you can ALWAYS PM me, any other mod, or flag a post to get our attention.

@profugocreator - I did find your account. When you select an item and click ‘Retire Item’ within your catalog, are you receiving an error?

@WALMART.COM_EXPERT No, when we “retire” products, the request goes through with no errors. The only errors that occur in our account are when trying to convert to WFS the products specified category. Other media products converting with no issues.

In addition, here is the support response: “After a thorough investigation, we have new information on this case. Regarding the item 14893902098, it is considered to be included in the “Books & Magazines” subcategory due to the fact that it is inherently a “books” subcategory. WFS does not and will not accept items listed in the “Books and Magazines” category/subcategory. We have no way to override this rule as this is a prohibited item and if we continue to convert this item, it will continue to generate errors. Even if it is “Sheet Music”, the subcategory will still be considered a book. We also don’t have the ability to change any categories. Sellers are more than capable of shipping and fulfilling these items themselves. We do not discuss other sellers on this platform. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. ”

But as I said, WFS books are not listed as prohibited products for WFS in help documents, and we can also see similar products in Walmart’s catalog sold by other third-party sellers by WFS. So this a bit confusing for us.

In case I’m not the only forum member who didn’t know what WFS is, it apparently stands for Wal-Mart Fulfillment Services.

It does actually look a couple of four-letter word phrase abbreviations mushed together  thank you for clarifying!

@Bird_of_Paradise - Thanks for clarifying. It’s our version of FBA

FWIW, I have had a few surprise orders from Walmart, via Alibris, for some of the few non-book items I stock. I can’t imagine Walmart as a place to sell used and out of print books, which are my main business.

When I’m looking for items like that, I start with Google. Whatever the platform, I try to vet the Seller, but as long as it looks legit and safe, I’ll personally purchase from wherever.

I buy some grocery items and toiletries from Wal-Mart, both in store and online. But any third-party item I ever see on the website or app is priced exponentially higher than I can find it anywhere else, and this includes books.

For years now, the notorious bookjacking behemoth in Texas that goes by numerous different names was – and I am guessing still is – selling all sorts of different products on Wal-Mart, and that was enough to turn me off using any third-party seller on Wal-Mart. The Texas gang was an early adopter of the platform.

I’m sure there are honest sellers using the platform, but in general I find Wal-Mart’s website and the app to be pretty much of a mess. I order mostly Wal-Mart branded items, which are at the top of search results. Anything further down is almost always more expensive than the Wal-Mart brand, and the third-party items either don’t interest me or are priced ridiculously high.

One of the biggest problems Walmart has is the inability to control their listings. There are 20 or more listings for the same exact product.

I suspect if you look hard enough, you’ll find what you’re looking for at a competitive price.

You shouldn’t have to work that hard and Walmart should crack down on the multiple listing fraud / confusion. It would benefit everyone (Them, Legit Sellers, Consumer), and lead to higher sales and more participation.
