I mean, totally not Mars why would anyone say Mars?
I would probably have to drive an hour or so to get in skies dark enough to stand a chance. The light pollution has gotten so bad for me that I was unable to find the Pleiades on a recent clear moonless night. When I was a kid, the Pleiades was my test for whether or not to go out; if I could see less than 12 of them, it wasn’t worth driving to the observatory, and that was checking from a house in the suburbs with a streetlight in the backyard!
But I was under incredibly dark skies in 1998 for Hyakutake; impressive as heck, even though all the excitement was over Hale-Bopp.

Where I live in the woods in between 2 large swamps it is pitch dark at night and what sky I can see is incredible. I can go down the road a ways to a cotton field and see most of the night sky. I take the dogs for a walk in the wee hours and always ■■■■■■■■ a pistol or carry my shotgun, lots of critters here. Special night sky events I get out camera gear and set up a tripod. I can get some great shots here.
