Yes Verizon provides a similar service. The T-Mobil came with antenna connections on it. Do not need it here we are on the fourth floor and can see the tower about two miles away.
I think T-Mobil cost a little less, plus all our cells are with Verizon, wanted to split it up a bit. T-Mobil also offered a backup service. The only difference is the standard plan is unlimited, the backup plan has a limit.
They can tell you if it will work at your location, I am sure Verizon can too. They also have a “Travel” program, cost more. People use it and take the router/modem with them on trips, or from campers. They appeared to announce that since customers were taking the “home” unit with them. I guess they plan for how many slots are on the tower.
When we relocate to the farm, we should be ok, but I will test it. I figure an antenna in the top of the barn 75 feet up could help if needed.
After installing this, since it worked so well, I upgraded my 8 year old Verizon LG that only had 4g on it. Just upgraded to a Samsung 25+ 5g. I am amazed with that too.
I have a friend who has this service, he takes his 5g modem/router with him on vacations, it still works, so not sure why they charge higher other then because they can.
Been waiting for this for a while now. T-mobile has the best coverage in my area and I’m 1/4 mile direct line of sight to a new 5g tower but for some reason still showing not available in my area. I am currently using the local LTE provider at $95/month and SLOW. Don’t want to pay the thousands of $ to get fiber from the main road to my house and won’t live long enough to make it worth it.
Call them. They did explain to me they have limited slots on the tower. It sounded like they dedicate these to the home internet connections. I did key our address into the webpage and it said it was available. Further conversations indicated they are limited, they are concerned with overloading the system, then having performance problems with existing customers.
Did not need it but they may have a waiting list. Our complex has about 365 units. While I have told a few people, I am not sure if everyone switched over we may create a logjam. looking at the routers within my view, I see only one that is clearly a T-Mobile, this since like most people they did not change the Modem/Router wi-fi name.
I never thought we would be running a cell service internet connection for more than a dozen machines. Then again, my remote service started with a 300 baud BBS system I wrote.
That was after leaving my R&D position at Xerox Corporation, where we connected our 3mb/s ethernet up to Arpanet circa 1977-1981
I did call them and they denied me however a friend who lives close to me went mainland to a T-mobile store and was able to get one that way and his works fine. He brought it over to my house and it worked great. Ima going to try that route next time I go off island.
When I had conversations with them on the phone, they did tell me if I run into any problems going the automated way to go to the store. I bet that works.
The fact that your friend brought it to your location and it worked is very good news. Without that you can not do much.
I have a pseudo backup for this.
Have all computers with a wifi USB (or built in ) Turn phone into a mobile hotspot. Local network still works so I can run printers etc…
The connection is good enough to let me get things done. That Is how.
Although since I went to Fios I have never had any down time.
Even with the power out as long as I have my generator the internet has never gone down.
Same! Other than the time that someone accidentally cut our fiber line, It’s never gone out. Been with them since 2009. Far cry from Time Warner or Spectrum or whatever those losers are calling themselves these days…
Even during Sandy, FIOS was up (powered by our generator)…
Verizon is incredibly reliable (Mobile / Fios). You get what you pay for.
Ok ladies and gents need a good KVM switch which can do HDMI or Display port.
My last one is so old it uses DVI (shame, it was a KVM with audio switching too)
I tried a search on Amazon and of course it was 40 of the same device under different sellers and some of them had the “warning this item is often returned” The ones that didn’t were listed in the past few weeks.
I can of course put in the research if I need to but hoping someone here has one that works well.
