Hoping someone here has some insight as I cannot find anything on weeks worth of searching.
I have a brother MFC-8480DN which is not officially supported for Win 11
The printer works fine and I have about 3 toner cartridges and 1 drum 2nd tray so I have no desire to get rid of it.
Some people have said the win 10 driver should work.
Big issue, business in in the toilet. A comparable new printer would be $600 which I really don’t have the spare capital for. Plus the cost of the extra tray.
Does anyone know of anyone that has been able to get it fully working (printer and scanner at least) with win 11?
TYIA
Is this a first time install or did you have it installed before and then a windows 11 update caused it not to work anymore?
I have not yet installed.
There is a work around technically for me. I have a computer that cannot be upgraded. I can keep it active just to scan, fax and print, but it would be a pain to go from one computer to the other (on different levels).
I will be honest I am not a fan of win 11. I use it at work, I find it once again a step backwards.
Win 95 was a huge improvement, Win 98 the same. Win 7 awesome, Win 10 a worthy improvement. Win 11 seems to be an excuse to add well adds into your user experience and force a internet search in to the homescreen.
Reddit (the cesspool of unanswered tech support requests, so I’m surprised to find an udpate on this one) suggests that a user did finally get it working using a Windows 7 version of the driver, somehow.
It’s a network printer, so it should still work using an older driver and connecting to it via the network
Using the older computer to connect to it may be your only option.
There is no windows 11 driver for this printer.
If you can set up the old printer to be a printer server, then the printer could be accessible to your network.
Yeah I spent hours going through threads there. Normally I am not the person to ask for support but I have been searching on and off since last year.
Have you tried https://www.virtualbox.org/.
Create a virtual pc on your existing computer so you can run 2 OS at the same time.
It’s free download.
That’s how I can have xp running in a box on my windows 10.
Install the printer in the virtual box (running win7, 8 or whatever) & share it.
Then on your windows 11 side connect to it as a network printer.
Also there are a ton of videos on YouTube you can review..
Example.. https://youtu.be/nvdnQX9UkMY?si=H9zfYeNm55HuYhLI
You should be able to install the printer on the computer that is compatible and then share it on the network. If you right click the printer there should be a “share” option on the context menu if I recall. I only have one Windows box in our office (we are a Mac shop) but when I worked in IT all of our printers were shared across the network. The drivers reside on the computer where the printer is installed. Hope this helps!

Is there a router available that would function by connecting to a mobile hot spot?
Would like to create a backup system for when the fiber optic internet goes down.
I have this! But my solution is not for the non tech.
The basic
My cellular “modem” is https://www.peplink.com/products/mobile-routers/max-br1-mini-5g/
I have a pre-paid card in it ($10/mo for 2 gigs I think) and it gives me piece of mind just in case the fiber goes dark (and it has once in 3 years)
I have clients that I have Ether2 connected to a Comcast connection when their primary is Fiber
I have one client that Ether1 is a Residential Fios 1g/1g and Ether2 is a Business Fios 250/250 with a static IP for their VPN
The router in question:
This is NOT an out of the box dial wan router/firewall/vpn. I have a guy that can make mikrotik routers do amazing things, and he is worth every penny
DD-WRT? Those were some fun times when I was a kid ![]()
I was a big fan (still kinda am) of the Logi quiet keyboard, but recently I used a Logi MX Keys S backlit bluetooth keyboard, and man, I am hooked..
The problem I found with the quiet keys, they are nice and quiet out of the box, standard hard plastic keys but the rubber membrane was much nicer, for me though within a month or two they became LOUD keys, LOL
I have a solution for that, though it is not technical it does have a monthly fee.
I wanted to cut the cord with Comcast. They increased us to over $300 at the start of this year. Spent a lot of time looking for solutions, this was for our home internet. We are in a temporary apartment, and it is only served by Comcast.
I found and installed a T-Mobile 5G internet system. The cost is $65 a month they offer “Gifts” after you have paid for 2 months. Not something that made us move, we selected a 50 inch Smart TV. It showed up, and I was surprised. Don’t even need it but, you never know.
The service has been outstanding. Put the router in a window, we happen to have a line of sight view to a tower. Instant 5 bars 5G service. We now have 12 devices connected to it, all work well and simple to connect.
Uploads and downloads have been 150MB/s depending on the time of day. Sometimes a little higher, sometimes a little lower. And yes I said upload speeds of 150 MB/s something unheard of with cable or fiber. This helps us since I upload to our servers more often that most would.
100% uptime for four months. Easy people to work with, unlike Comcast. We have VoIP, Cell phones, work and home computers and a fire stick on it for streaming. Plus much more than that.
We were an early adopter for Direct TV, I was amazed with that technology. I am blown away with the quality and cost of the T-Mobile 5G service.
The router provides wi-fi as well as one high speed direct connection. We plugged that into a ethernet switch for direct connect on devices that do not support wi-fi.
If I needed a backup in the studio offce, I would select something like this in the future.
We have to run an antenna with a repeater inside to get 3 bars on 5G with Verizon. Not sure we could get a TMobile signal here in our little dead zone. ATT isn’t good here either.
Verizon has this new “Backup Internet” program that they are advertising locally … if it is cellular, we might consider it.
I am a verizon “snob” all day, My cell has been verizon since day one since it JUST WORKS, but my $10/mo backup sim is pre-paid t-mobile cause they were the lowest and they have decent signal here.
We use Netgear A600 for computers that don’t have WIFI capabilites. With the A600 you then connect to a phone as a hot spot.

If you have a computer on the network that gets the internet via hotspot you can turn on Internet Connection Sharing on that computer to get the rest online.
To enable Internet Connection Sharing in Windows 10, please follow the steps below:
**That reply was about a backup plan when the internet goes down not sure it was clear.
