The US Sun | USPS issues bombshell announcement about Amazon packages and ‘12-1’ rule

can’t wait for Amazon to plug in this data :man_facepalming:

Hi @wadeorcas this seemed important enough to have its own topic.

It’s important to note that this is a pilot program.

More info

There is no way in hockey sticks that this program would work in a large city.

A 1hr window to drop packages off with only 1 additional hour to have them all sorted and ready to load on trucks.

Just let customers Will Call their orders at the FBA warehouse if it “needs” to be “same day”.

Just save ALL the labor and time. Let them show up at the warehouse and go find their items on the shelves.

AND make them buy the hard hat, steel toed shoes, and, reflective vests that would be REQUIRED for entry.

If you are in that big of a hurry you should be prepared to pay for the ‘convenience.’

Well, it applies to only 3 routes, and a limit of 200 packages. Barely a blip on the radar.

I am less pessimistic about the prospects of this effort succeeding.

I’ve spoken about the three trips per day Amazon makes some days to deliver to our 11 unit condo.

I haven’t spoken about our USPS deliveries.

Our postal carrier drops packages here when he delivers letters. If there are more packages than he can comfortably deliver, a separate delivery is made by another carrier.

The cutoff time for that carrier to leave the PO is later than when the letter carriers leave.

Since my letter carrier never scans the mail he picks up from us, it was a mystery why some days shipments were scanned.

The package delivery carrier picks up outgoing mail as well as delivers packages, and he scans every item he picks up which is tracked.

This scheme might work well in a large city, where packages to a specific address are numerous and they are already using a separate delivery for packages.

At only 20k population, we are the degenerate case of a city.

As for FBA pickup. we are about half an hour north of the delivery hub for Amazon last mile and most of the product coming to us is one or more hours south of that hub. Just not feasible.

Rural carrier heading out on his third trip of the day.

My mail delivery/pickup happens late enough as it is already. There are times I leave the light on so he/she can pick up my outgoing packages. It has already been as late as 7:30 p.m. when they arrive. Can’t wait to see the 11:00 p.m. drop off/pick up come the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

And now Amazon is aware and waiting to flag your account for late shipping…
