The worst has happened

Please please please enable 2 factor auth for your accounts.

Yes yes yes I know your computer was compromised, but all accounts you have and may have saved passwords on your pc are now at risk

Well that’s some pretty damn good news and QUICK!

How did this happen? Were you able to get in touch with someone? I hope so bc my concern if you didn’t is this reactivation relates only to the new CC being verified and the next roll of the bot that takes down accounts for what happened (chargeback) will just take you down again.

Amazon works strangely like this. You think you’re good until you’re not. Hope I am totally wrong on this one and you’re good to go.

The exact same thing happened to us about a year ago and we were restored pretty fast. I also reported the incident to the FTC and sent the report to Amazon.

I would suggest not only 2 factor but set up a passkey for your account. It’s much more secure - if they don’t have the passkey they don’t get in. You don’t need to buy a dongle for Amazon’s passkey, it can be stored on your password manager, but we did purchase a hardware dongle from YubiKey - very secure. I now use it on all accounts that are supported.

Glad you got this fixed quickly, it took us about a week to get ours unlocked.

Oh my word, coming into this thread 12 hours later was a freaking roller coaster of emotions–ending thankfully with RELIEF!

@Rollthebonez did you do anything else after posting here, or was it simply paying the fraudulent order with the last two digits?

I would personally save the receipt and the police report, and try to pursue reimbursement from your card or insurance, explaining that you had to pay it to unlock your account. Weirdly, it’s like taking an account hostage but letting a third party lock and unlock it.

I am so sorry that you had to go through this. :downcast_face_with_sweat:

I did call customer service but she was no help , only told me I already did what I could do, (fill out the form to pay for the fraudulent order) and just wait for amazon. I did also use the contact form on the seller side as suggested, and they just said nothing they can do as it’s the “consumer” side with the problem.

It was simply just paying for the fraudulent order but YOU must pay with another account that is IN YOUR ACCOUNT… which I think is a bit silly, because some people may not even have more than one in the account to begin with.. I think I am extremely lucky and I am very thankful for that.. also glad the order that went through was only 583 and not 10,000

are you able to set up the 2 factor for the consumer/buying side? I’m so afraid to make any changes to amazon anymore, I dread having to update anything, over the years seeing people getting suspended and what not just doing minor things.

I’m sorry you had to go through this too it really is terrifying, also very glad you were able to get it resolved.. I tried googling and came across others in this situation but their posts didn’t have a resolution so I was really scared

Yes, I have it.

NOTE, If your pc is compromised again like it was this time, 2 factor would not help as your pc would already be authorized past 2 factor if you remain logged into your buyer account all the time (like we all do)

I use two different email addresses & cards for Buyer & Seller account.

It definitely makes things easier for me to keep them seperate.

For sure…. Would never use a personal buying account to sell on. Would never use a seller account to buy on (with the attached buying account)…

I mean, it’s different I guess, if you are selling here and there. Business, a real business that you use to pay your bills…. - No!

But you all have personal buyer accounts ON YOUR SELLER ACCOUNTS like it or not.

They also all have/had valid cards on them.

LOCK THEM DOWN NOW, 2 Factor and then log out of the buyer side.

Yup, I know about the buying account, just would never use it… Never open an opportunity for something to go wrong, because it will as we see here in this thread. Thank goodness it wasn’t a very large purchase. There’s a special place in hell for the person that did this to the OP.

I literally have a separate laptop that the only thing it’s used for is the Amazon selling account.

There’s exactly nothing else ever opened on it, including e-mail. Walmart account managed on another machine.

Use google authenticator for everything. Prob not the best but not starting over now…. haha

Google authenticator is by far NOT THE WORST. More towards one of the best before you hit dedicated hardware keys.

They are seperate, I’ve never made a purchase on this seller account or the consumer side of it , I have a personal buying account not linked to my selling account

I never used the consumer side of my seller account, never made a single purchase but the information is saved there unfortunately. I have my own personal buying account not related to selling account as well

This is some crazy story….!

Sorry you went through it and mad that you had to pay for it to get back, but really glad you’re back and fast….

Lessons learned hopefully for anyone reading this

I never have the browser save my important logins, like bank and credit card. It does save other passwords, though, like my rewards cards for Wendy’s, etc.

I have 2FA, password safe, and use a machine for amazon seller work that has no other purpose/use.

But - why the heck would anyone have a seller account with the ability to also buy on Amazon as a customer? I’ve never thought to use it that way, and the email address for amazon seller activity is a unique email that is only used for that purpose.

Is there any way to, for a seller account remove the permission to make ANY purchases at all?
My amazon purchases are made with a personal email address, on a different workstation.
