Not really a Windows 11 question as much as an old person who can’t figure out these new fandangled machines question. I cannot figure out how to get a screenshot of a window with an active drop down menu. Help!
I use lightshot for my screenshot needs, and it includes open dropdown menus. If you are trying to do it with the built in Windows snipper tool, I don’t know except to say, have you tried lightshot?
I see it is available as a Firefox extension so I’ll give it a go. I’m always leery when Mozilla says “This add-on is not actively monitored for security by Mozilla. Make sure you trust it before installing.”
I don’t use the extension, I just downloaded the app. It’s a tiny little app and I like it.
You will have to go into the keyboard settings in Windows to change the print screen default action to not open the Windows snipper, using @Roxy’s advice in the OP.
On windows 11 using Firefox browser, we click the menu then right click the mouse (with the mouse over the menu) to see the Firefox menu of options to open up where we select the take screenshot. When the screen darkens, we use the + drag a box around the Firefox menu are to take the screen shot.
If it is an embedded second tier menu, we use the print screen snip it tool and again use the + drag a box around the menu.

We have all of our snapshot / snip it saved to the download area to make it easy to find to drop into a post or word doc or excel sheet or etc.
On desktop, I activate the drop down, use the “prtscn” button to capture it, and then use the native snip tool to screenshot the screenshot (
). That puts it into copy/paste play easily.
For example, if you try that on an Ebay menu, it closes the drop down before you can select “take screenshot”
So it appears to work on some coded menus but not all. At least on Firefox with Win 10
I’ve tried this to no avail and it closes the drop down before I can select OR it does not copy for future paste into an image editor. Print screen button IS enabled in keyboard settings. I’ve also used various other keyboard command functions. It appears I will have to try “lightshot” as @HobbesIsMyTiger suggested. I’m just leery of Russian originated software.
Win 11 and Firefox is what we have. Win 11 print screen now can select what you want to have as a rectangle, free form, window mode or entire page. That with what Firefox allows for gives us what we need.
Win 10 was more limiting.
