UPC exemptions on Walmart

Question.

We sell aftermarket automotive parts, no upcs and over 30,000 parts.

Is there a UPC exemption for walmart, similar to Amazon’s exemption?

I believe upthread it was mentioned by @ModernSwitch that there is a process, at least for handmade:

We do have UPC exemptions. Recently sellers are getting approved within 48-hours. Do you have a Walmart account yet?

We have been a registered Walmart seller for a while, but it has been quite some time since we added another item.

I am having difficulty in locating our existing GTIN exemption or requesting a New exemption. Am I missing something…? I do not see the options?


I found this and waiting to see if my uploaded excel works using GTIN and CUSTOM in the required boxes.

Didn’t work. I guess I need to contact support.

Looks like it’s saying your exemption is expired and you have to request it again.

That is a better error response than normal. Spec sheet 5.0 came out about 6 months ago. Looks like you didn’t get approval since then. It should be a fairly straight forward process to get.

Out of curiosity, @WALMART.COM_EXPERT , which version of support do you recommend on the Wal-Mart Seller Center Support? Phone, Chat, or Email?

Does the email generally provide better information since the employee is not rushed to respond as quickly?

I can answer that (in my experience), I often use email because I don’t have time to chat or talk on the phone all day about issues-it does not seem to provide any better service or understanding of the topic you are looking to resolve.

Regardless of the platform, I always have better results (low bar, though) when I get someone on the phone. I have the power to make them stay there and listen to me until they finally understand my problem, and then make them stay on the line until they at least make some attempt to resolve it. With chat they can just copy and paste boilerplate stuff while playing Candy Crush or whatever, and with email hardly anything past the first few words even gets read before they send some unrelated template response.

We do have a walmart account, we are just not currently selling anything. Due in part to this problem.

We received our approval for GTIN exemption on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I am overloaded and cannot attempt to list a new product until next week.

If you have Exemption in a category for the file you need to enter “CUSTOM” in the product ID column

If I click the Account COG There is a Option on the left saying “Administrator Options” but that’s all I can find. It this an old message that was never updated when the UI was updated?

So far, just my info page. I cannot find a reference for the GTIN exemptions.

Our previous exemption must have been removed, similar to what Amazon BR1.0 did to us years ago. With Amazon, we needed to apply for BR2.0. Seems the same thing happened here too. We needed to reapply recently.

I just uploaded the Excel sheet I made previously that was rejected and my new product is now published. It worked today. Same excel sheet.

It was easy to reapply. I just answered all the questions I could and left the ones I didn’t know “blank”. Then was approved without any additional questions.

Neither can I, even though I know we have exemptions.
There doesn’t appear to be a place a seller can see what their exemptions are.

The My GTIN exemptions page is new. Seems like it’s not rolled out to every seller yet. I am having my sellers have this issue as well. If you do not see it (and either have a current exemption OR want to request a new one) I’d recommend submitting a Partner Support case.

I added 2 products to Walmart using the UPC exemption.
I used the spreadsheet upload both times for 1 product each at a time to make sure I was doing it correctly.

Neither worked on the first try, but then I fixed my image errors and it worked on my 3rd try.
