So we were on the bleeding edge last year, We had a 4 Core 6gig ram VPS. We are now on a 10 core (faster) 8 gig ram vps. Best part is it’s about the same price. Old server was going to renew for the year on the 22nd of this month, so timing was perfect.
NOTICE: Some users are reporting they have to reset their password to log in. Do not be alarmed if you have to reset your password.
They must have made a mistake since I did NOT have to. Good thing since we just changed cable providers and I now have carpal tunnel from putting in passwords to all the streaming services on the new provider…
That occurred at a point when you had not completed the new install. There was a banner above the login which indicated that. I went away without changing my password, returned later and it worked.
That might have been the point, yes. The process of moving involves a backup, downloading a 3 gig file, spinning up the new server, installing discourse and docker, updating both, uploading the backup file, restoring, and then going in and manually editing the server config file (not in the backup), so some of you may have caught me in one of those moments where I couldn’t/didn’t have the site in read only.
We didn’t have to reset password. Just had to re-login with authentication app like normal.
Emails came through fine.
Your wife tells a different story …

Got booted but didn’t need to do a reset. With that said, just went on the forum for the first time today a few mins ago. Probably the difference… Thanks for your work maintaining this place.
Those of us who don’t even know what that means, Salute You!
Nothing to be sorry for! Thanks for all you do (which I do probabaly not understand enough to appreciate)
But I do know that “move” is a four-letter word.
There was an additional update in the last few hours. I was in a meeting but my co-worker took care of a quick patch and optimization while I was occupied!

As do those of us who do have a glimmer of understanding of what our friend Baby Yoda’s speaking about.
Even those of us (MOST likely, a subset of one, namely moi
) who fleetingly suspected that yesterday morning’s lack of access to The Best Seller Forum Experience - aka the SellersAskSellers/SAS Forum - might indicate that the SAS Staff had finally wised up to my unconscionable shenanigans, and decided that the monthly graft I’m shelling out simply wasn’t worth the trouble of monitoring my participation… ![]()
I’m just kidding on that score,* but it does touch on something that I’ve been concerned about since before I began posting to the SAS, and something that I truly believe should be of interest to us all:
It’s only due to the selfless members of the SAS Staff that this forum exists; they themselves entirely foot the bill - not just from the goodness of their hearts, but also from the width, breadth, and depth of their own wallets and purses.
As today’s ‘mini-crisis,’ at it’s very root exposes, the never-ending need for upgrading of this or that software suite often requires consequential need for upgrading of the hardware supporting it (and/or vice versa) - an expenditure in time and treasure which once again falls upon the shoulders of the SAS Staff (a number dwarfed by the number of us who are SAS members, and all at no cost).
I continue to yearn for a way to help defray those costs - and quite frankly, I strongly suspect that I’m not the Lone Ranger in that wish.

Other than the incessant demands for the sacrifice of me first-born child, the SAS Staff only ‘touches me’ annually, not monthly ![]()
ETA: This is an edited re-post of my 021126 original, which was flagged due to my use of a word that can be considered anti-Semitic, and thus a violation of SAS Community Guidelines.
I harbored no such intent, sub-consciously or otherwise, but I do understand why - especially in these times of rising ant-Semitic sentiment in so many facets of society - the post was flagged; I can only offer my sincerest mea culpa for making such an egregious mistake.
quick reboot tonight 02/12/2026, (wow this server boots instantly).
Livepatch enabled for server Kernel updates (system security patches). It should patch LIVE without reboots for the OS. I’ll still have to do our weekly Discourse and Docker updates but one less step!
It was not the 4 letter I used when everything went sideways!
Updated 02/18/2026, first update of the Lunar New Year!
