Thank you for those questions @Just_A_Lamb.
I have reached out to our partner team to request additional guidance on OTDR issues.
If the orders were shipped on time with a āClaims Protectedā shipping service, they will be covered for delivery/transit issues.
Another wave coming. I havenāt yet looked through all my orders yet, but it seems like shipments that were shipped on 10/18 are also having the postage assessment issue.
Iāve checked 5 of them so far and they are have postage assessment issue.
this happened to me too on 18th. Please check these packagesā 1st scan time in regional processing hub, are they scanned before midnight ?
Are you using a scan sheet when dropping off?
(We donāt ⦠we watch them scan each item)
Do you drop off at the counter?
(Some post offices donāt like it this way but might make a difference)
Do you always use the same post office?
(Is there another one close enough to test to see if it makes a difference?)
What region are you shipping from?
I just got a message from a buyer for a package that was shipped out on Wednesday, 10/22. Buyer is asking why the postage has not been paid. Just my luck, I purchased this without protection. It was going to NY and USPS GA was showing 1 day after the deliver by date. I use them anyways because I donāt want to purchase more expensive shippings. I shouldāve just used shipstationā¦
I counted 11 shipments that were sent out on 10/22 with the postage assessment issue.
I just checked and yes, it was scanned on the 18th at 6:36 PM.
No, I donāt use scan sheet.
I used to go to a small office where they scan it right away and they prefer doing it this way. I recently changed this starting this week. Now I just go to a bigger post office and they have bins out and I just dump it in there.
Shipments prior to this week was dropped off at the small office. Last Wednesday was dropped off at a bigger office. So, I donāt think this made any difference.
Iām in Frisco, TX.
There are more sellers saying postage assessment for shipments shipped on 20th - 22nd on NSFE.
So, Amazon not only delays payments to sellers (DD+7 days policy), they are now delaying payment to post office too, instead of paying postage immediately once seller purchases a shipping label, Amazon is waiting till after midnight to pay post office.
We are also in TX.
If we drop off at our local post office (very small ⦠open only 8am to 3pm with closed lunch 11:30am to 12:30pm), the package doesnāt leave our post office until the next day. If we drove 30 miles to a bigger post office, it would process out the same day. So size of post office does matter.
We just did some checking. When we run [Orders > Order Reports > End of day forms], the End of day form is showing the Shipping Date that is one day later than the actual label purchase date and actual label first scan date.
From the [Order > Order Reports > End of day form] page where you download form ā¦
Notice that there are NO shipments between Oct 10th to Oct 14th.
Oct 15, 2025 shipment of 4 units shows Shipping Date 10/16/2025
Oct 10, 2025 shipments of 2 units shows Shipping Date 10/11/2025 ⦠we had no shipments on 10/11/2025.
This explains why our scans show this for the first day after being scanned ā¦
Amazon has a calculation error in reporting which is effecting USPS shipments
Itās very crowded here in Frisco so within 5 mile radius of where I live, we have 3 post offices.
Location A and B are small and all the shipments go to location C. Then all shipments from C goes to the sorting center which is 40 minutes from where I am. So I come to realize, when I said it didnāt matter, I think it is because they are all going to location C anyways.
Hereās a thought - if I ignore handling time and just buy labels right away but ship them out no less than 24 hours, Iāll be safe from the postage assessment issue if it was to happen again?
No ⦠you will just mess up your handle time if on AHT ⦠or cause your Handle Time Gap to go over 2.0 days in which Amazon will enroll you in AHT with out the right to un-enroll.
There is some bad coding (or coding being done by Amazon on purpose) which is effecting USPS label purchases and how USPS is processing those packages. Amazon needs to correct the issue(s) in the code.
Ok, Iām going to do everything the usual way and hope the postage issue doesnāt happen again.
3 times just this month that the postage assessment happenedā¦that I know of. There could be more, I donāt have the time to go through all of Octoberās orders to see if there are any others.
Thank you for the detailed answer!
I donāt think itās a USPS thing. āWe have an excellent relationship w/ our P.O. counter employees-if something was going on w/ our parcels Iād have my tactful, nonchalant husband(all the characteristics I donāt have) go talk to them or to the Hub manager. .
We use Stamps- because I hate giving AMZ another darn dime more than am forced to or giving them more control over our sales. ! I have griped here several times about the monthly Stamp commercial membership having increased from $19.95 to $49.95 since Dec. ā24 for more than 15 labels monthly.
BUT none of our labels are getting ALERTS-and even the few monthly BPM labels we do thru AMAZON for FF/Aggregators seem to be okay (DONāT BABY SIT OUR PARCELS without good reason-so we might still end up getting an unhappy surprise.) None of the aggregators we sell to regularly( as in several times weekly) in Portland and Brooklyn have complained. So it may be worth the extra $1 daily.
USPS has slowed down during the gov. shutdown. Noticed a few days slower delivery especially on GA(beginning to think it isnāt worth the premium) but I think PO employees are getting paid, unlike other civil servants. .
Postal employees are getting paid as the postal services generates itās own funding. The slower transit times could be do to the shut down as some mail is transported by air. Problems with the air controllers could be an issue for the post office when it comes to transportation of mail.
It does seem like it is an issue with Amazon not sending purchased label information to USPS before the items are in USPSā possession.
Iām based on the west coast, and so far, I havenāt had this happen to any of my orders yet. Iām guessing the data has been sent to USPS by the time my packages are picked up, so I am wondering if a programmer forgot to take the other time zones into consideration? Has anyone else on the west coast been impacted by this issue?
In S. AZ, also presently on Pacific Time till Nov. time change when we slide into Mountain Daylight Time.( Because AZ is one of the two states doesnāt observe the time change-we just glide between PT/MDT as the seasons change.)
As explained in our comment up-thread, weāre not having a problem w/ ALERTS. Since we rarely use Amazon labeling(only BPM) more than 4 or 5 times weekly, donāt think weāre a broad enough sample to be useful.
