USPS recycling very recent tracking numbers?

I think I have a record.
The tracking was reused before the original package was delivered.

Shipped on 2/21 Delivered on 2/27 Recycled on 2/26

Had a customer contact me about shipping it to the wrong address. I looked at the tracking, double checked it and did a WTF.

I have the same thing. Are we sure these things will eventually get delivered to the proper address? I was hoping there would be a scan today even if it says it was delivered to the wrong state last week. It is hard to explain this stuff to customers looking for a refund or replacement.

I’ve got a buyer this morning asking whats going on with an order from last week that says it was delivered in Jan 20th.
I told them the item should still be delivered, and that if it is not delivered by the end of the week they should notify me.
Not sure what else to do.

If you check the tracking on the order detail page, you will see the current scans as the package moves and it will show delivered when that happens.

The USPS site will only show the prior tracking so you need to check on the Amazon site tracking. It will not show the location but it does show the status.

The order detail page says “left carrier facility” at 7:00 AM on the 26th and “Package Delivered” at 1:00 PM on the same day. I was hoping there would be a new scan showing up on the UISPS site or on the order detail page today. It seems like I may never know if and when this gets delivered. I just told the customer to wait a few days past the original estimate before putting in a claim.

Check USPS and see if there are two packages in play. We had one that was still in route back to the seller while ours was still in route to the customer.

Same package can’t be in MO and CA at the same time. Maybe something like this is happening to you also.

Amazon order detail page now shows “delivered” today. So, we assume it was to our customer. There aren’t any locations listed for any activity in Amazon so it is tough to follow. The USPS tracking only showed the other delivery tracking the whole time. There were never any scans for my shipment on the USPS site so I was worried this order wouldn’t get sent back to us or would go to the wrong address from the original order. Although there were quite a few more of these reused labels from last week, this is the only customer who contacted us about this. Hope this stuff gets back under control soon.

You should be good. That is how most of ours have shown up on Amazon and USPS.

Today is the first FBM order I received after the USPS GA recycling tracking number issues last week. Is the issue has been fixed as Amazon news stated?

Just want to double check here to make sure that nobody is still getting those bad tracking numbers.

We haven’t had a bad tracking number since last Wednesday 2/26/2025 … and every shipment that we had with it involved has been delivered …

You should be good to go.

Thanks for the reply. That’s good to know. My one and only order with the recycled tracking was also delivered, according to Amazon order page. The buyer didn’t conact me about it at all, at least so far. :crossed_fingers:

Has anyone dealt with an INR claim on an order impacted by this glitch?

I have a buyer who ordered something on Feb 20 with a ship date of Feb 24. The USPS tracking shows it was delivered and signed for on Jan 20th, obviously showing previous tracking info. According to the Amazon tracking, this item was shipped and scanned on time, but then no movement between Feb 25 and Mar 5. The package was eventually delivered on Mar 7.

The buyer messaged on Mar 3, the original delivery estimate, asking why the tracking showed it was delivered a month ago, and I explained the situation. They messaged again this morning claiming they still never got the item and wanting a refund.

Normally, I would tell them to file an INR claim and let Amazon deal with it, but given the tracking mixups I have no idea if that will blow up in my face. Given a choice between refunding myself and further annoying the buyer by making them jump through a bunch of hoops to file a claim that Amazon may not even cover, I’d rather refund myself and save everyone the hassle, but if Amazon will cover this as they are supposed to, then it’s worth directing them to file a claim.

We had one very similar … explained to the customer the issue and that it was covered under Amazon A to Z policy and directed to file the claim. We did all of that in the first email response and the item showed delivered on Amazon the next day. Customer has not filed or contacted us back.

We would direct customer to file A to Z and explain the package is covered under Amazon A to Z Policy. If they open the claim and Amazon doesn’t cover, there is a NSFE thread where the instructions were to post the claim number to get follow up escalation by a mod. If you go this route, we would take screen shots of the Amazon tracking and USPS tracking to have as backup supporting documentation.

I think you need to take another look at my profile picture.

sadly I have been forced on a few occasions to post to the NSFE to get help.

Seller support is useless for most issues.

If my choices are to refund the item or have them open an AtoZ I will probably lose and then have to go to the NSFE for help, I’m just going to refund.

I’m not going to reproduce each of the images that the long-time vet @Bad_Mouse_Vinyl posted to this NSFE discussion, because of PII concerns, but this is an interesting development pointed out there:

Someone’s got some ‘splainin’ to do…

I remember that user and thought they were pretty astute, iirc. Glad to see they’re still kicking!

What the heck is going on?!

USPS and their sales platforms’ “adjustments” sheesh

And it isn’t at USPS as some at Amazon would like to pawn off on.

We responded to Bad_Mouse_Vinyl and gave a subtle hint to google a phrase that, if he does, will give him SAS as the top answer.

He was in NSFE beta with us and we think would be an asset here.

I agree, wholeheartedly, as I found Bad Mouse to be a valuable asset back in the old-fora days.

I saw your subtle hint, and am hopeful it will lead to the SAS…
