USPS Scan System is Down Nation Wide 06-30-2026

When we dropped off our packages this morning, the clerk (who always scans our packages for us) inform us that the system to upload the scan data into for USPS is down nation wide.

So expect missed scans today and/or late postings of scans (if the package is scanned and the system comes back up, it will get into the system).

Deliveries may not have scans today (wonder how Amazon will handle that with this DD+7 payment system?)

Thankfully (or maybe not), I have nothing to scan today.

I just got a “Package Pickup” email from my carrier pickup

And I just got a second email, yeah system is a little glitch today

ETA, the package was an eBay outbound package, and ebay shows “Carrier Scan” so the API is at least talking to ebay

USPS system seems to be back up around 12:00pm Central Time as we can now see our morning’s package scans.

:man_facepalming: When I dropped off this morning, the line was long, but I dropped off at the commercial counter. I thought it was so nice the postal lady thanked me with my first name while she was helping others in the long line.

Did not mention the scan issue.

The scanners worked but the system they upload into was down. A clerk working at the counter may have not even been informed about the system being down. The person in charge of making sure the scans and system inputs are met would be the one that would know. In our post office, the clerk and person making sure the system inputs are met is the same person (one person post office).

In theory – according to what they have posted – if there is no delivery scan they just pay in DD+7+1 AFTER the last expected delivery date.

I use the +1 because they may ‘release’ it on DD+7 but it doesn’t appear to available until the end of the day at best!

Amazon isn’t doing that. We have had 3 USPS deliveries that were late (two were 2 days and one was 4 days) and all of them were paid as Delivery Date +8. None of them were paid as Estimated Deliver by Date +7+1. It makes us wonder what will happen if there is no delivery scan (lost package).

Same here. Book sales are incredibly slow without the AI buyers…

Downdetector says that your clerk is clueless; that virtually nobody else has had problems with USPS today.

When I dropped off this afternoon, I asked about the scanning; clerk verified that it was now working.
On the flip side, the A/C in the building was not; they had just brought in a huge portable unit, but probably 80 degrees inside.

Our 10021 PO is a cooling center. They set out folding chairs in the lobby of their 1920’s building on hot days, as does our local branch of the NYPL, which dates (Thank you, Mr. Carnegie) from the late 19th century.

Have not been to either in a long time, but I guess it works, We have had local warnings of extreme heat for the next few days.

Not sure downdetector has data on the USPS private system. We’re not talking about USPS website. It was USPS internal systems (private network) that collects data from post offices and feeds out to places like USPS website, Amazon, eBay or whoever else is tied into the USPS system.
