Yesterday’s quake is the third nighest on record in Maine in over a century.

The highest was under 5 and Northeast of this one. That was in 2012.

Maine has an earthquake abour once every 5 years.

Looks like the NE might (might…) be getting slammed with snow over the next 10 days.

2, possibly 3 sizeable snow events. We have a winter storm watch up for Sat night - Sun.

Another storm on Tues, and frozen precip in the forecast Wed, Thurs, and next Sat.

Euro model has 36" of snow in the forecast through the 16th. Sure, I’ll believe that when I see it, or shovel it.

We have had seasonal record highs this week. Mid 80s to low 90s during a time of the year where we should be around low 50s. But it is all coming to an end on Sunday. Then we get highs in the low 40s for 5 days (possible snow) and then back up into the low 70s.

Coat … shorts … coat … shorts … sometimes both in the same day …

Yeah, it looks ugly. Worst is Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, as Nisha teaches on Wednesdays. Hopefully it will either come early, so I can dig out the van, or late, so that they cancel classes.
And we have a big cleanout (actually 3) planned on Thursday; may have to reschedule them AGAIN, since Covid made us put them off in January.

I’m hoping for lots of precip of any kind (other than freezing rain).

I don’t want to be dealing with drought ■■■■ this summer with water restrictions like we did 30 years ago and never since…

Reservoirs have actually dropped back again a little. Couple points since 1-7-25. Now at 75% with an 89% normal. That 89% normal though normally includes a snow pack that isn’t there this year (YET…)

I plow for the state of Virginia so we get called in if there’s even a hint of winter weather. Yesterday, I drove to work in freezing rain (with lightning and thunder) and came home 6 hours later in 50+ degree sunshine. You never truly appreciate the difference between 32 degrees and 33 degrees until you’re responsible for keeping the roads ice-free.

Today was insane for the temps. Went to the store about noon, thought that I could have worn a T-shirt. Took a walk about 4:30, and found myself wishing I’d worn a scarf!

We woke up around 30 degrees and the afternoon was in the mid 70s for a couple of hours. This will be our pattern for another 2 to 4 weeks after which we start watching the skies for those pesky tornadoes.

It was 64 here at 1PM yesterday.

Now - 23…

Rain on Wed thankfully. We are already 4" in the hole for this year. 12 if you count last years deficit too

Electric company has notified the area that they might have to shut down the grid for a few hours each of the next two days due to high winds to avoid the possibility of the high wires sparking and creating wild fires.

It’s nice to have underground power… No poles / wires here.

Good Luck. IDK how you people do it…

Do you have a generator???

Tbh I appreciate this. And I’m several states away.

We’ve been under fire warnings for several days (but not today). Rain in the forecast this week, too.

Yes …

It’s the transmission lines (the ones that run from power stations to towns) that they are worried about so even those who have underground feeding their houses will be out.

We get red flag warning quite often (anytime we get winds 40 and up). The expectation is to have 60 to 70+ winds with this event. A couple of years ago, about 90 miles north of here, there was one of the biggest fires in the state (over a billion in damage) that was caused by snapped electric poles. Ever sinces then, the electric company errors on the side of caution and shuts down in areas during the peak of these events.

Not a weather post but a good wake and shake with the epicenter about 8 miles away this morning (Obstruction island).
