Weather

Haven’t paid a lot of attention, but did see that the weather guy I subscribe to on YouTube is doing a Live “Tornado Chaser” video. Sounds nasty; but then again, it’s that time of year…

Waiting for the predicted nasty weather in NYC tonight, and hoping it does not spoil the parade on Monday.

Forecast is saying to expect over an inch, but frankly, looking at the radar (8:00pm), there are two big bands, and it looks like they may straddle us, and we get nothing.

2-3AM, according to the future radar appear to be rough.

Sadly, the heavy rain will miss the reservoirs. Slightly less than 10% below normal. Not too shabby, but we could do better.

We ended up getting some pretty hard rains here. Not sure how much of the drainage area for the Hackensack got heavy, but I’m sure it will help at least a bit.

Getting some thunder in NJ now; I had forgotten it was supposed to rain, so took a moment to figure out the noise.
Checking the forecast, tomorrow is 20-30mph winds, with gusts to 40. It’s also trash day. So if I don’t get out there shortly after the garbage truck comes by, I’m betting I’ll have to search the block for my garbage can. :face_with_bags_under_eyes:

Yup, pouring here now.

Guess I picked a bad day to get a costly car wash…

Nice though. Reservoir bullseye but it’s a quick hit

This little rain maker should get us to 90%, and out of the woods for any potential issues over the summer

Yep, nice rain. Hopefully our water here in NJ will stop tasting like seawater in the next few days.

We had a ‘high wind’ warning a couple days ago. Normally not much happens in our subdivision but one of the neighbors had an unexpected guest overnight –

Last Friday 3/14/2025 when we had our 70 to 80+ winds, our neighbor’s (across the street) large elm tree got thinned out pretty good. Because of the direction the wind was blowing, most of these limbs ended up in our yard and the next door neighbor.

Our town had several trees blown over like in your picture along with several fences knocked down. With the amount of shingles laying around in yards and streets, we know the roofers will be happy and busy for a while again.

So on Saturday April 5, 2025, we had snow all day long.

Then Sunday overnight into Monday, our central air / heater stopped working and we woke up at 2am to the house in the 50’s. On Monday, we troubleshooted the heater. Tried replacing the capacitor but no luck. Ordered a new board which came in Wednesday (Wednesday was around 80 degrees) and we installed it. Great it works again.

So on Saturday April 12, 2025 (just one week later), we are 98 degrees and thankful we have the air conditioner going.

Side Note

We will need the heater again this upcoming Monday - Tuesday during the night.

NorCal now, so I will just use the water from one of these then ship it South.

How can someone say no to “The finishing touch” and “Hits just right” descriptors for a bidet. Seems like it needs a parental advisory or perhaps a rating of some sort.
Why is my wife in the bathroom so many times a day… and why so flushed and out of breath each time?

Read an article today that Lake Oroville has gone from 30% of capacity to 91% today.

All good for now…

Very dangerous system to manage up there. Too empty and farmers cry about no water and asparagus is 3$ a stem and artichokes are 9$ each. Too full and we get no flood control should a warm front melt more snow than the rivers can handle wiping out numerous cities that have a bigger GDP than most of Mississippi or Louisiana. It is quite fascinating how the dam and rivers prevent salt water from destroying the agriculture in the region when brackish water pushes in during the summer and fall.

Thankfully we rely on competent engineers and not politicians for water release decisions in state controlled dams.

I like what you did there.

Snow melt is just getting started… And there’s a lot of it this year. Good to see the area in better shape for a change. NV, NM, AZ, and UT are in trouble at the moment.

We got close to 50% capacity in Dec. Hasn’t happened since the 80’s. Thankfully it rains everyday lately. Up to 93%.

Perhaps they should stop their own versions of NIMBY and build another reservoir too. Only took us a decade just to get a shovel in the ground. lol
