Too many variables there. You have to get access first, then EASY supplies (poles, cable, insulators, transformers etc) on site. If a substation is taken out, those parts aren’t “EASY” and aren’t always in stock at the local yards.
I can tell you I work with a client that sends crews across the USA at a moments notice for restorations so boots are on the ground literally 1-2 hrs after outages.
We were in the Savannah area recently, and the Canadian wildfire smoke was evident down there–both physically for those with asthma and allergies, and visibly (although that’s not why we did not see a single cargo ship the entire time we were there except for one in for maintenance).
Interestingly, we were in Colorado for Memorial Day in 2023, and it was also covered up by Canadian wildfire smoke, prompting my now older-and-wiser youngest child to ask, “Why does Canada always pick our Memorial Day for wildfires?!” The pattern recognition is strong in this one. (Interestingly, there’s never been a wildfire when we are actually visiting Canada.)

Stepped outside this morning, felt like stepping outside after getting your baggage at Orlando International Airport… ALMOST EVERYONE knows what it feels like getting smacked in the face by that thick air!
It’s been pretty nice in SE WI but the next week is supposed to get HOT. Heat Index of 100+ for several days from the sounds. GOOD time to be elsewhere.
Oh well, it’s going to be in the 80’s in Prague as well…
Our weather people are promoting the cool front that came through last night … we will be down to the mid 90’s today before we go back up to the high 90’s / low 100’s.
Europe’s high temperatures are expereinced differently–air conditioning is not as widespread as in the US. Remembering Paris at 101 degrees a few years ago…
