New John Deere mower for PA residents.
103 here coming next Tues. Hopefully thatâs not trueâŚ
Hopefully itâs a dry heat
Forecast is showing dew points in the mid 60s; definitely NOT a âdry heatâ.
The heat might be dry but I wonât be. ![]()
When I was in HD yesterday (getting a new box fan to replace the one that seized up last week), I noticed some âCooling Unitsâ that seemed to make some amazing claims, of circulating and COOLING air, from a device just sitting on the floor. Knowing that the heat has to go somewhere, I figured it was a scam or misleading claim, but looking closer, it was an evaporative cooler. In New Jersey! A whole freaking stack of them!
These work great in Arizona, but around here, itâs just going to make things worse. Canât believe HD would even stock them here; I bet a lot of people are going to be disappointed at the performance.
Dry heat in New York? I have lived here my whole life and never experienced dry heat in NY City or NY State.
I think they are called swamp coolers. An old boyfriend who grew up in New Mexico explained how they worked. I donât think I have ever seen one.
You will tomorrow and SatâŚ
Vicious line of storms rolling through in a few. Be carefulâŚ
Well, somewhat (maybe) related to weather:
We started about a year ago selling print ads from old magazines. Just this week, weâve sold 3 ads for air conditioners; never sold one of those before! So maybe the heat wave is good for business!
Nice cool weather with no humidity, to report here.
June Gloom here in Southern Cal.
Morning Fog along the coast, marine layer that covers the entire area.
Another 3 weeks before our summer starts, if it does.
Framed or unframed?
Amazon and /or eBay?
Unframed ads, on Ebay. All from Fortune magazines from the 60s; we picked up a bunch of library-bound sets.
Only get about $10-12/each, but cost next to nothing, and are very quick to list and ship, and take up almost no room.
(by ânext to nothingâ, I mean that Nisha asked if I though we should take some of the bound copies of Fortune. I figured we could give it a try. So we asked the person in charge what it would cost; she said we could have them for $1, but we had to take all 28 volumes! Still havenât processed them all. Only downside is that because they were bound for the library, and lot of the 2-page ads are unusable.)
Moved the tow cart for the tractor this am too do some tree trimming and mulch rings around said trees and this guy was camping below the cart! Moved the wheel barrel over him so he had shade.
Line of storms moved thru the other day, mostly missed me but smacked the rest of the area. Now the oven is on HIGH.
Hundreds of record-breaking temperatures are forecast across the country through Thursday, with the highest number probably occurring on Tuesday.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025/06/22/heat-humidity-record-central-eastern-forecast/

A wave of record-breaking humidity and heat is surging across the United States, with about 265 million people forecast to experience 90- or 100-degree temperatures during the week ahead, including humidity levels that rival those in the Middle East.
Again, itâs not just heat; itâs heat plus humidity. And itâs not just hot; itâs record-breaking high temps.
RESOURCES FOR BUSINESSES:
From the NWS Special Weather Statement:
I will also add, for those of us in areas where the load might exceed the capacity of the grid:
- Charge all the batteries (and the back up batteries)
- Consider a generator
- Consider battery-powerd/hand held fans
- Learn how to use your cell phone as a mobile hotspot
- Plan ahead in case you need to relocate for a few hours or a few days
- Check your inventory for heat-fitness
- Try to print shipping labels with plenty of âsnafuâ time built in
- Consider filling up your vehicles today
- Consider freezing extra bottles of water and icepacks
- Think about a medicine cooler
He moved out this morning!
2 more mulch rings done before 9am and done. It got THICK temp/humidity wise today.
Breeze kicked in after 2 and it is comfy under the deck with a fan. Barely though. Sun will bake you in seconds.
I hope we donât have a grid problem with this heatâŚ
Grid problems certainly a concern. One thing nice in NJ is that we have a huge amount of dispersed solar generation, so power is not always traveling long distances from power plants to end user. Keeps from stressing the grid quite so much.
But of course, any major widespread event will get us all. Hopefully that doesnât happen; if it does, it will be working in the basement by flashlight.
It is. I live south of the PJM Interconnect and every time NYC has had a problem and taken down the east coast, PJM smashes the big red button in time and disconnects from the NYC grid, keeping us online ![]()
