You should see the ConEd outage map right now. We are literally surrounded but still on…
They did a lot of work underground in my little area about 10 years ago. Hopefully whatever is down there is a little more robust than the surrounding areas that are currently down…
Suddenly got very overcast for some reason. Hopefully it will keep the temps south of 100 today.
The passenger climate zone in my pickup doesn’t “work”.
A mostly broken damper actuator, $20 part, that would cost $1500 to fix as the whole dash needs to come out to get to it.
Well, after months of delivering Arctic air it chose yesterday to “work” and switched to Death Valley mode.
The driver side zone does work correctly and I can get a bubble of cooler than outside with just wafts of the devil’s breath so long as I drive with the passenger windows both down.
Sorta reminds me of the weather levels in Arizona:
Hot: you drive with the windows down.
Really hot: Roll up the windows, turn on the A/C
REALLY Friggin hot!: Run A/C full blast, and still have the windows open because A/C won’t keep up.
And for all of these, be strategic at stop lights, etc., and try to get the shadow of the utility pole on your dash.
What’s really surprising me is it’s 97° with dew point in the 70s, with no sign of any “pop-up” thunderstorms within 500 miles. Maybe just need to wait a few more hours.
Plus I’m on multiple meds that depress my heat tolerance. I’m not saying I’m considering one of those cooling suits you can hook up to an ice chest and a recirculating pump… but…
Power went out a bit after 7:00, right when Nisha turned on the ice-cream maker. Close enough timing I thought it had tripped the main with all the A/Cs running, but nope, area out. Lasted about 30 minutes. Dropped again a couple of hours later, but only for a few minutes. Got flashlights and battery powered fan ready; and I packed up all my orders for tomorrow so no problems there.
And this was all after going out at 5:00 to buy a replacement for our really old A/C that finally gave up the ghost Cashier said he’d seen more A/Cs sold today than ever before; and he’d only come in 90 minutes ago.
I know everyone at SellersAskSellers already knows, but power outages elsewhere in the US–IOW not where you are–do also affect our businesses, especially ordering, payments, and shipping.
All I can say is WTF with this heat… I’ve never seen 107 before. And now tomorrow is supposed to be almost as bad.
More than a week ago, junk was popping up on my social making claims that the temps would be this high today and I laughed and declared “fake news”. Nope. They were right.
ETA - that’s my wife’s station. I don’t listen to this crap by choice. lol
It’s a great station! And…yeah, it’s all unfortunately very real.
Love it when cars measure the temp; it always feels more precise for “right here right now” and what we humans on the ground are actually feeling.
WeatherBug says we’re still a balmy 95° with HI only 100°…meanwhile indoors we have two central a/c units (one for 1st and basement, one for 2nd), and we have still had to close all blinds/shades and rig a system of oscillating fans to keep things tolerable.
It’s like a hot, humid cave with an occasional breeze.
We moved our thermostat to 75 and the main central is cycling, sometimes off for 30 mins with the portable 10K boosting it. During the off cycle we are being nice to the grid. When they are both on - not so much. Sorry… The portable is off at night. TBH, if I knew it was going to be this bad, I would have pulled an Elvis and put tinfoil on the windows that face the sun. LOL - Blinds are all down and room darkening. We have all our lights off.
It’s a comfy 72.7 in my basement where I’m working RN.
I should have taken my car out today bc it always reads too high. Prob could have gotten a picture at 115 with how off that thing is. The sensor is either too close to the engine or sheet metal.
There are 4 refrigerators in this house. We do not want to lose power so fingers remain crossed…
Generator prob can’t handle all of them and we would have to rotate plugging 2 in at a time.
