Out here in California we have tsunami warnings through early tomorrow morning.
Apparently there was a major quake off the Kamchatka peninsula in far eastern Russia. Current estimate is 8.8 on the Richter scale.
Did you just get this latest storm? Went from 90 to 77 hereā¦. Nice
Lucky you. Everything went north of me (according to radar, by less than a mile, but I think radar lies sometimes). Still mid-80s here. Tempted to try to take a walk, but will probably be lazy, and just sit on the sofa sipping rum.
I saw something today that this was the 6th most powerful quake since measurements started 100+ years ago. Thankfully it was in a fairly isolated place.
Well then, be careful out there today! We have quite a few members in the red and yellow bands considering that stretches from NYC (maybe the southern border) all the way to DC
Saw in a health article that Phoenix is now considered Americaās hottest big city- thought it was Las Vegas. Paramedics have reverted w/ a āoldā remedy for heat stroke-immersing in ice.
The article stated all Phoenix fire stations now stock multiple 10-lb bags of ice, like a convenience store, and adult-size vinyl bags to insert heat-stroke victims to cool their internal organs. Take both on their trucks during our ferocious summers.
Mention this as a public service as we move into August, historically the hottest month!!
I experienced a āmildā heat stroke during the pandemic-assumed I was having a heart attack- at an outdoor Phoenix book sale-boxes/tables set in a recently creosoted parking lot. Heat radiated both downwards and up!. Was given the standard treatment at the time: loads of IV fluids and ice packs on head and neck, Still have sudden pains in my head where the heat concentrated!! .
Nisha got an alert from her school (even though she doesnāt teach during the summer) that all classes after 1:00 are to be done as remote; the campus is closing down due to flood concerns.
But at least for now, it looks like the majority of the storms are going well north of us. I just hope we get enough to cool things off!
Itās raining here.
Radar shows rain, and Iāve been hearing thunder for the last 20-30 minutes, but not yet enough rain to make the sidewalk under the tree wet. But certainly looks like weāre in for a LOT over the next few hours. Currently, Flood Watch, Flood Advisory, and Flash Flood Warning for my area.
And looks like it might be moving your way!
We probably got 2-3ā here in the last hour. Nutsā¦.
Minimal rain in Manhattan, but tons of warnings. Building management even asked those of us in our building with terraces to clear drains and secure their outside furnishings.
Sounds like us the last 2 summers. Everything always went around us.
Once the deluge stopped (only lasted like maybe 20-30 mins) - that was that⦠Itās been cloudy with drizzle off and on.
We finally got some decent rain, but nothing really heavy. But MAN, the thunder was crazy! Some rumbles must have lasted 15-20 seconds before dying out.
Now Iām going to go enjoy the 70° air and take a short walk.
The pre inferno dry out and bake period is beginning up north.
Time to attach the windshield wipers to the solar panels to clear the ash off.
Reminder, political comments from either side are a no no in Universe 616!
Love hearing weather and storm reports, but could everyone let us know the state from which they are posting?
We need to know if the tornado is in OK or OR, if the floods are in TX, or if the tsunami is headed for NYC.
I sold a book a few years ago about how air-conditioning influenced the development of the US over the yearsāprobably should have read it before I shipped it.
