Just ran across this video from the flooding around Tucson; the AI narration is annoying at times, but the video is incredible and terrifying. I saw several flash-floods when I lived in AZ in the 90s, but nothing at this level.
There was a joke that “Phoenix gets 7” of rain a year; this year it came on a Tuesday". This is what that looks like; a dry creekbed with a wall of trees coming down it.

We have been in Texas(still are), looking at houses for our big move occurring mid-October.
Daughter still in Tucson but assume she was in Phoenix this weekend(she usually is). Anyway, she didn’t mention the scary rainfall. We knew nothing till saw your flash flood video!!!
I was rather shocked when I saw it. I’d not heard or seen any news about it; of course, national news is consumed with politics, and locally, we had pretty bad flooding on the same day (a “200 year” event; actually heavier rain than in Tucson!), so I guess it’s not too big of a surprise.
Still, you would think that the news sites would have SOMETHING about it. I suspect I found it only because I follow some weather vloggers on YouTube, so it fit my feed.
ETA: thinking about it though, maybe not hearing about it is a good thing. There would have been more coverage if a lot of deaths; I didn’t see anything about any serious injuries even, so that’s a good thing. Comparing that to the flooding around here, it’s amazing that people living in the desert understand what to do in a flood better than the people in areas where rain comes every few days.
ABC nightly news showed video of the flooding in Tucson tonight but it was very brief. No on-scene reporting.
In fairness, especially to a national news source, the key word in “flash flooding” is “flash”. There is usually some warning that something could happen, but rarely is there more than a few minutes of actual warning about any specific place about to be hit.
I’m in the southeast. Our “feels like” topped out at 106°F today, September 20th.
Well, our Grandson has been here all Summer (and will be until the end of the year) has been walking around the house all Summer with his coat on for some reason. I can send him down for the Fall if you have good internet for his classes (and LOTS of food).
I’m pretty sure he is going to ask me to turn on the furnace pretty soon –
So for that last two weeks, there was rain just to the north, east, south and west of us.
So … God please let our little town have some of the rain. Thank you.
Last night … it started raining around 11pm and 12 hours later we are still getting rain.
So … God thank you for sending us the rain. Since we know you are listening, next time please send our rain over a few days and not a 3 month supply in 12 hours. In the meantime, could you please send a boat to help us out. While you are at it, could you make it a cruise liner so we can have a little vacation at the same time? … Again … thanks!
