We also had no sales today, though one FB! After a dearth of about 46 hours, yesterday had several orders from the SW area at nearly mid-night. If one is going to boycott, don’t attempt to use the time zones to your advantage!!
Didn’t check SC till nearly 3 p.m MST. I refuse to revert to newbie behavior, feverishly checking e-mails or staring at SC, attempting to mind-meld it to reflect a sale!
Husband went to pharmacy/grocery a few hours ago(He’s become an expert shopper since he retired. Any household chore he thinks he can do better, l smilingly concede. Too bad has no interest in improving scrubbing/mopping skills)
He saw no diminution in crowds-plenty folks were buying. However, it is Friday plus the 1st of the month, a payday for many Plus retirees, of which there are loads in our area, get SS or pensions on the 1st! .
Men tend to like things with handles, unless the tool be mop or broom (“Women’s Work,” and all the nonsense which oft surrounds that notion).
Many are the better-½’s that’ve overcome the second consideration, by appealing to the first, with the provision of a commercial (Class 2)-graded (and/or a consumer (Class 1)- or industrial (Class 3)-graded) wheeled mop bucket equipped with an efficient wringer.
There’s a reason why wifey turned me into a mopping fool, years after I’d already garnered no little distaste for swabbing the decks via military service.
Saw a blip about it on some morning news show that was on at the chiropractor (though no one else was watching all noses glued to their phones). So while maybe it was on “mainstream news” (I didn’t catch what channel it was on) but I think no one is watching anymore and if they do they just don’t care.
Target was just as busy as usual.
I’ve had 2 sales on Amazon today when I average about 3 sales a week lol.
If people really wanted to make people aware their would be boots on the ground with signs standing in front of retailers (I know that wouldn’t effect Amazon). I don’t think people care that passionately to take time from their own day to spread awareness when they can check that box by sharing a post on Facebook and feel like they did enough to further the cause.
We’re beginning to have Friday evening sales roll in (Friday, Sat usually good days for us except in high summer). Though of two minds about it, I’m gonna purchase several books from both 3rd parties and AMAZON just to show I’m independent minded-as I still believe most Americans are–though I hesitate to give TPTB confirmation their recent “60%” TV ads are working!!
Once upon a time I believed as you do. Such as when I was a leftist and I carefully listened to what Bill Buckley had to say. One could not predict his positions. One did not need to listen to the likes of Bull Connor or the opponents of the civil rights movement.
There came a point when I ceased to respect most of the holders of opposing positions because they were predictable and lacking in intellect.
A periodic check shows they continue to be without new insights and ideas.
This afternoon’s Executive Mansion spectacle requires no understanding of positions on any side, since no one is willing to apply honesty and historical perspectives. Not at all uncommon any more.
At my “real” job in a retail chain clothing store on the 28th all we had was a later start. Normally there is at least one person waiting to get in at 9:00 opening. That day, nobody waiting. Not unheard of, but almost an hour later, I suggested maybe we were being boycotted. Everyone on shift cheered, we figured we could get some “real” work done, with no pesky customers causing us to stop our tasks to assist them
Such did not come to pass, customers began showing up within ten minutes of our cheering. And in my own business, I’m with @Picks_by_Nisha that it was a pretty low bar in any case. I eagerly await the post boycott inflow of orders.
I agree with the OP of that Reddit post that his/her experience qualifies for the definition of anecdotal evidence, yet I still believe it would be interesting to learn more details about which particular metropolitan area - or areas - hosts the OP’s AMZL biz.
Since I was reporting "Live as it happens, ‘Film at 11’ " I thought I should do an update.
Our sales closed the day at about 50% of a normal Friday on Amazon. No conclusions by me since we have seen worse and we have seen better. That and the day before as I said upthread, was one of our better days this month.
As intended, I believe. Small businesses have been reporting around the interwebs that they saw either little impact or actually slightly increased sales.
This proves that these businesses (and our own small ecomm businesses here on SellersAskSellers) are most successful when we offer multiple ways for customers to access us, offer high quality unique products, build our own customer relationships off of sales channels like Amazon, and intentionally highlight our small-ness and family/community ties.
These are good data, to look at a “typical” Amazon 3P Friday, versus yesterday.
I doubt that Amazon will come out now or during their blackout week with any data or acknowledgement. And I’m not sure that I would personally trust any kind of rah-rah post from them about it, anyway.
If you want to know what they claim, wouldn’t it be best to seek out where they post and see for yourself? Going to the source has always been the mantra for getting the most accurate info. You may not agree with what they conclude, but at least the conclusion won’t be tainted by the perspective of whoever is reporting/translating what the claims are to you.
