When UPS 2nd Day Air isn't 2nd Day

Today’s buyer message:

Hello this was said to deliver on the 30th of October when I placed the order and now it’s arriving NOVEMBER 2nd. Cancel my order I will not be accepting it or paying this.

Buy Shipping showed Oct 30th delivery when I bought the label on Oct 28th - UPS 2nd Day Air.
UPS Tracking now shows Nov. 2nd. I opened a chat on UPS:

This was shipped 2nd Day Air on Oct 28th. Why does tracking show Nov 2nd delivery?

We understand waiting is frustrating, and we’re working hard to get your UPS 2nd Day Air® package to you by Monday, November 2nd. Because the shipment was dropped off late in the day on October 28th and transit schedules account for business days and network routing from --------- to New York, the transit timeframe aligns with that delivery date. We’ll keep your package moving safely along the way.

12:41 PM

It was dropped off before the UPS pickup for that day

12:42 PM

A late-day drop-off can impact the transit time calculation for UPS 2nd Day Air®, as transit schedules account for business days and network routing. This can result in the delivery date aligning with these factors rather than simply two calendar days from the drop-off.

12:42 PM

So what is the latest drop-off time that qualifies for 2nd day delivery? I was shown delivery by Oct 31 when I purchased the label

12:44 PM

While late drop-offs can affect the estimated delivery date for UPS 2nd Day Air® due to transit schedules and network routing, I don’t have information on the precise cut-off times that qualify for 2nd day delivery. For detailed information, please contact us.

Today is the 2nd business day

12:45 PM

UPS 2nd Day Air® transit time is calculated based on business days. For example, the Quick Zip tool describes “2D” as “Delivery by the second business day by 5:00 PM.”

I was waiting to drop them off at the end of the day because orders were coming in consistently, it was the last day for Oct 30th delivery and I wanted to get out all that came in before I had to leave to get to UPS before their truck came.

Warning - this was a UPS Store location with 6:30 truck pickup time. Even if I had dropped it off earlier, their only pickup is 6:30 so my drop-off time didn’t matter. I don’t even know where the nearest UPS Hub location is, it certainly is not close or I would know it. So every UPS Store drop-off has to factor in another day? This could be a nightmare of late deliveries with expensive shipping costs.

I wonder how many more upset buyers I am going to hear from.

I explained to this buyer that I was shown Oct 30th for delivery date and had no idea it could change; told him to file an A-Z claim when it delivers. He thanked me. He’s not upset with me now but I am upset about it.

Buy shipping through Amazon and let their automated shipping system handle the claims due to their poor counting skills. Just ensure that you have the scan, which UPS often neglects

The UPS store scan counts. so it should scan as being accepted on time.

I did use Buy Shipping and explained to the buyer to file a claim.

I’m just upset for the buyer that it didn’t deliver on time.

I have the UPS Store receipt.
