It is unfortunate, but my guess would be something to do with consumer privacy/protections/data as we have seen with Amazon changing buyer order information in emails to keep google from scrubbing data,. Far far more likely than some ploy to punish FBM sellers over FBA sellers.

That’s been my supposition, as well, ever since reports of this mess first began surfacing back in late June of this year.

It’s partially because of that data that I’m not yet convinced that Amazon’s actually engaged in this onslaught with malintent for 3P sellers - I think it more likely that it’s released yet another poorly-parameterized Amabot designed to protect from 16 CFR Part 465/16 CFR §465-based Trade Regulation Rule on the Use of Consumer Reviews and Testimonials (link, Federal Register) non-compliance fines - or mayhaps tweaked the one it unleashed, w/ a some degree of precision more than now seems to be the case, that produced Amazon’s lawsuits heralded in the 022222 About Amazon Blog article "Amazon Sues ‘Fake Review Brokers’ Who Attempt to Profit From Generating Misleading and Fraudulent Reviews " @ https: //press.aboutamazon.com/2022/2/amazon-sues-fake-review-brokers-who-attempt-to-profit-from-generating-misleading-and-fraudulent-reviews.

There are of course various other explanations for what many of us are seeing, but I do think that’s the most-likely one.
