Wayfair Swings to Profit on Higher Sales

Active customers at the quarter’s end slid 4.5% from a year earlier

Key Points

What’s This?

  • Wayfair reported a surprise profit of $15 million, or 11 cents a share, in the second quarter, reversing a loss from the previous year.

  • Revenue increased by 5% to $3.27 billion, surpassing analyst expectations, with the U.S. business up 5.3% and international up 3.1%.

Active customers decreased 4.5% to 21 million, but excluding the German market exit, revenue grew 6%, the best rate since early 2021.

Key takeaways. Want to make money, have fewer customers and exclude the German economic disaster area.

Thanks Lake,

For those that do not sell on or do not know how Wayfair works here are some interesting facts.

  • You list your items with them
  • They then change the brand to a random made up brand
  • They then sell the items for two times what you listed them for!

The salesperson that reached out to us was very nice. However he did not and would not give us details as we onboarded. Once we saw the last two bullets we pulled our participation with Wayfair.

He never called us back. Though I sent him this great map that we sell since he talked to people all over the country.

One of my daughter worked in finance for them, and was one of the many who chose not to continue to work for them. She continues to be friendly with many of her former co-workers, all of whom chose not to continue to work for them.

I ruled them out as an investment years ago.

I have a minor interest in how they fare,

The few items we bought from them were crap, but so much being sold is. I am not sure we could find similar items at any price which were not crap.
