Your Amazon Business account has been closed I

Well, finally joined this site … but have perused the posts from time to time, good to see some familiar “names”.

I realize this is not about SELLING on Amazon per se, but related.

I only have one Amazon account, opened 25+ years ago, and used for both selling and buying. For buying, Amazon classified it as a “business account” MANY years ago.

Today, I received the following note:

We will be removing your organization and any other Amazon or Amazon Business accounts linked to your Business account from Amazon as we have determined that your usage of Amazon Business does not fit with the services we provide. You will no longer be able to make purchases using your business user account.

In truth, I only have purchased one item on Amazon in 2025 (a book) and none this year; I try very hard NOT to BUY on Amazon except w/ gift card money. Prior to 2025, I used the account for some purchases every year, nearly all using gift-cards; some items WERE for my business, some were not.

So maybe Amazon is saying “you aren’t buying enough” to be classified as a “business account”? Otherwise, I can’t imagine any other possible issues. Doesn’t seem to have any impact on my seller account, which is in perfect health.

I appealed (as I’d like to keep my order history available, which will otherwise be deleted they say), also asked about the $15 left on my gift-card balance. If the appeal is denied, should I just open a personal buying account (for those very few Amazon purchases in the future)? I suppose that might be advantageous anyhow, for example I naively bought many books on “Half-Baked Books” some years ago (in one large order), all described as “very good” when many were not, and of course could not leave feedback about that. Could have left feedback on a personal account though w/o issue I think.

Any helpful insights are appreciated.

I know this is not helpful but you got me?

I have never heard of them closing a buyer account before.

First, we would check the email header to make sure it came from Amazon.

So this Amazon Business account was attached to the buyer side of your seller account … correct ?? … Can you remove (un-enroll) yourself from the Amazon Business account ?? It sounds like you no longer qualify to be apart of that program.

What type of credit card was being used on the business account ?? … business credit card or personal ?? Did you have a business credit card attached to it and then replace it with a personal credit card ?? We have two credit cards attached to our buyer account which is separate from our seller account. One of those credit cards is a business credit card and Amazon keeps sending us emails to join Amazon Business. This tells us that they are using the credit card type as a way of determining who to market Amazon Business to.

We don’t think you will loose your buyer account since it is attached to your seller account. Amazon is probably just removing you from the Amazon Business program because you no longer qualify.

Yeah, very strange, and yet ANOTHER Amazon time-waster AT BEST. I mean, why turn down potential money/income?

This is actually very scary.

The Amazon Business program is a failed initiative which has mostly been ignored.

The only people who have been scrooged in the past have been sellers who were forced to give Net 30 terms.

If it can cost continuity in buyer accounts, that is a potential nightmare.

I can see a variety of reasons to attempt to deprecate the Amazon Business program, but closing buyer accounts to do so sounds like they tasked this effort to an idiot.

Definitely from Amazon, shows up in my messages there too (on the buyer side).

Right, buyer side of the seller account. There are a variety of credit cards attached to the account, some business, haven’t changed any in a long time – but have only used gift cards (some issued by Amazon itself for U/I studies, etc.) for some time. I didn’t CHOOSE to join Amazon Business to my knowledge, they just assigned that status a long time ago (or maybe I am mistaken about this, can’t remember).

It’s ok to lose “business buyer” status, no big deal, maybe a few cents here and there. However, I’m guessing I’ll not be able to buy anything w/ this account. Note that at this moment at least, I’m still able to put things in my cart. Haven’t tried to check out, says that all pending orders will be cancelled and refunds issued to the credit cards (IF I had any such pending orders).

So would open a personal account using my personal e-mail I suppose. Again, I don’t care all that much, very close to ending ALL relationships w/ Amazon including my selling account anyhow.

I think this combined with maybe the items you were purchasing weren’t necessarily business related? I think Amazon wants business accounts to be buying daily, paper, toner, pens, office supplies, tech, etc. They want to be Staples, WB Mason, Granger etc.

There are suppose to be two different logins … one for the personal buying account and one for the business buying account. We would think that the personal buying account login is should still work.

Search - If I join Amazon Business, can I unenroll later on?

Yes, you can unenroll at any time. Closing your Amazon Business account is straightforward. When you close it, your account simply converts back into a standard personal Amazon account.

How to Unenroll (Close Your Business Account)

If you are the account administrator, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Amazon Business account.
  2. Hover over your name/greeting in the top right corner and select Business Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Business Profile section and click Close Business Account.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to verify your identity and confirm the closure.

Important Things to Know

  • Account Conversion: Your login email and password will remain the same, but you will no longer have access to B2B-specific features, such as multi-user management or business analytics.
  • Order History: Shared payment order histories will be deleted, so you should download your Amazon Business analytics and reports for your records before closing.
  • Business Prime: If you subscribed to Business Prime, you must cancel that membership before closing the overarching business account to avoid unintended recurring charges.
  • Duo Memberships: If you used the Business Prime Duo plan (which links to a personal Prime account), the memberships are unlinked when you close the business side.

For granular details on unlinking accounts or modifying membership plans, review the Manage your Business Prime membership guide.

Just be careful. I remember reading someone tried to close their buying account and the rep instead closed their selling account.

Same guy that worked on Brazil in the past…:face_with_symbols_on_mouth: :face_with_symbols_on_mouth::face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

And, as far as I am aware, every seller account has a buyer side attached but it’s been a LONG time since I worried about that stuff.

@svbooks I am concerned that closing the Buyer side of your Account (or “removing it” from Amazon Business) will also close the Seller side of the account.

It’s the “any other Amazon or Amazon Business accounts linked to your Business account” that has me anxious for you. :grimacing:

It sounds like something you should probably not mess with, to be honest.

If all they’re doing is closing your own B2B buyer account, it is what it is.

You said yourself you try not to use it, maybe Amazon noticed.

I sure hope NOT! I’m only a wee bit nervous about that, but I suppose with Amazon, I should be more nervous since I very much doubt anyone competent will be involved in this process. No response to my e-mail 30 hours ago.

IF you are correct, that would actually make some sense, to “downgrade” my buying account to personal from business. If so, not a big deal. I’ve certainly bought some “business supplies” in the past, just not much in the past 2 years so yeah, that could be it. Again though, why hassle a customer when there’s nothing to be gained for Amazon, only lost? Could there be a less competent company (or at least group as in the Marketplace Group)?

If you had a different login for the personal account from the business account, you might want to make sure you can login using the personal one prior to the downgrade whether you do it or Amazon does it.

Me too. There have been horror stories. Closing the buying account automatically closes the seller account.

But maybe this is a different type of action.

So … I just received the following response to my “appeal”:

*Hello,

We have reactivated your Amazon.com business account. You can now use the account to make purchases.

Our system had deactivated your business account due to activity related to the account. Upon further investigation, we determined that your account should not have been deactivated.

Thank you for contacting us. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

And there you go. All’s well that ends well. What a waste of time. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: Thank all of you for your input though, much appreciated.

BTW, I don’t have a separate personal account, just the one login for my seller account /
“business” buying account.

For now, I’ll leave the account as a “business” account I suppose (vs. following your posted instructions to revert to a “personal” account), but thanks for posting that, helpful!

Could there be a more unpleasant company to deal with, now in all regards (selling AND buying) ???

AKA a lot of accounts were killed off, people complained, they found a bot went nuts

I should add that Amazon never did actually close the buying account or do anything – other than send the ludicrous e-mail and then respond to my appeal. Nothing like reactivating a still-active account. Nice job, Amazon! Bravo!
