Amazon Shipping - No OTDR Protected for 2 Day Shipping?

Why doesn’t 2 Day Shipping Not Show the OTDR Protected Badge?

We just activated AHT and SSA and our first 2 Day order doesn’t have the OTDR Protected Badge:

Did you see or do you see something like this on the order?

If not, then the system hasn’t updated for the SSA part and probably not for the AHT part. Think it was about 72 hours before everything came together for us when we did it (September).

We would wait a couple of days before we would get too concerned.

It has been showing both the Claims Protected and OTDR Protected badges for all orders before we signed up for AHT and SSA. Weird.

Yes, that has long been complained about in various discussion venues over the last few months.

Before you signed up, think of those little badges as little advertisements and nothing more. Before we changed, pretty sure we didn’t see the OTDR on the Amazon Buy Shipping like we do now but we were seeing the Claims Protected since we were using Amazon Buy Shipping.

Check this page on the Handling Time Settings tab …

And look to see if this ASIN shows as this …

If the ASIN doesn’t show as Amazon Managed, then either Amazon hasn’t linked the ASIN to AHT yet … ( OR … maybe … this ASIN isn’t linked to your SSA shipping template ).

We also used to show both badges also. But no longer.

We no longer show the OTDR Protection badge on our Shipping Service: Second Day orders.

Does not offer OTDR protection

Claims protected only example

We still see the OTDR Protection on Expedited orders.

Both protected

Seems our Expedited orders are not counted as Premium Shipping.

I wonder if KJ_Amazon’s ongoing efforts to convince the high muckety-mucks to wrangle ALL shipping options under the ill-deployed OTDR-protection umbrella might not be playing a role here…

The OTDR Protection badge will NOT show up on Economy, Expedited, Second Day, One Day or Same Day orders. All of these shipping options are NOT covered under the OTDR policy.

Only Standard Orders are covered under the OTDR Policy.

The order above is NOT covered by OTDR as the Shipping Service is Fedex 2day One Rate which is a premium shipping service and not covered under OTDR Policy. The two labels under the order here are nothing more than advertisements for what type of protection is available IF your order falls under the two policies. When you hover over them, the pop up is nothing more than a teaser telling you how to get these two coverages.

This next image is an order that has Claims Protection and OTDR Protection …

Notice that the Shipping Service is Standard. If this says anything else, then the order will not be OTDR Protected. This MUST say Standard.

Now notice that this order’s delivery promise was calculated using USPS Ground Advantage (less than 1lb). This order can be shipped as USPS Ground Advantage (less than 1lb) OR any other shipping service (example: Fedex 2Day One Rate) that will meet or be faster than the order’s delivery promise date.

When you have an order with the Shipping Service being Standard, you will see the following as option when you are in Amazon Buy Shipping.

As you can see, our order with Shipping Service of Standard has several options that are covered for both Claims Protection and OTDR Protection.

When you are in Amazon Buy Shipping and see the shipping services with the two tags showing protection and if you buy one of those shipping services, then at that point you have Claims Protection and OTDR Protection.

My Free Economy orders do show these protections and badges.

I am not sure why you are claiming that only Standard orders are protected. I have seen this claim several times, but I have not seen this on my own orders. Can you provide some documentation or other evidence?

On the order detail page … when you see the Claims Protected and OTDR Protected badges, those are there only as advertisements for the programs and their pop ups contain info on what has to happen for those protections to be in force.

When using Amazon Buy Shipping … if the shipping service selected for the label purchase meets the criteria for protection, the badges will show for that shipping service and will be in place if you buy that label. After you purchase the label, those protections will show up on the order page like this …

So the fact that my Free Economy orders, both before and after purchasing shipping, show that they are OTDR Protected, is in fact nothing but advertising for this program? I can see why you might think that if they only showed up on potential shipping options before purchase, but if the order shows OTDR Protected after purchase, I feel justified in thinking that this order is, in fact, protected.

I see that the help page you referenced does state (in terrible grammar) that OTDR protections apply only to Standard shipping. However, help pages are known to be wrong and/or outdated. Since the orders themselves are showing that they are protected, I would need empirical evidence as to which position Amazon actually intends to enforce.

So on your order detail page, Free Economy or Economy shows where ours show Standard?

Are the protections showing up under the shipping label section on the order detail page like this?

As of this past weekend, none of our orders coming in have the Claims Protected or OTDR Protected bages showing prior to purchasing shipping.

Do you have AHT and SSA enabled for all of your items?

Please understand that we are only trying to understand what you are seeing and where. We know that Amazon often runs A / B testing on different accounts within seller central. Sometimes sellers will be seeing and experiencing different things because of A / B testing.

We can assure you that as of now … OTDR protected only happens for Standard orders by Amazon policy. It doesn’t mean that Amazon couldn’t be testing as they could be.

It didn’t occur to me to take it any other way.

Over my objections, yes.

@HobbesIsMyTiger and @Old-Timer well that is interesting and not what Amazon states in their policy or even what was stated on NSFE by mods.

We would wonder if your orders of two weeks ago were showing the same Claims Protected and OTDR Protected when you were purchasing labels. … or whether this started last week when we started seeing the Late Delivery Risk on shipping labels?

It would be interesting to see if Amazon actually gives the OTDR protection if either of you had a late delivery with the shipping label showing OTDR Protected.

Chalk another one up for Amazon updating code on the fly and not to stated policy.

My orders have shown as protected since they rolled out the badges.

We previously had both Claims Protected and OTDR Protected for every order type. This is why I made the post in the NSFE about Premium vs Standard to find out if Expedited is Premium or not.

We lost OTDR on Second Day orders back in either September or October.
We still have OTDR on Expedited today.

We never needed OTDR on Free Economy because we only sell $9.99 and under items with Free Economy. First Class Letters (no tracking and under $9.99) do not factor into OTDR metrics, at least for us.

Here are a bunch of screenshots.

Ummm … well then Amazon has it set for OTDR Protected on Free Economy, Expedited and Standard.

Not sure if this is what Amazon had planned but it is definitely what they have programmed right now.

Guess we will just have to watch future updates to see if they take these away or announce that they are included in OTDR Protected.

I don’t think we can trust those badges. Amazon – whatever bot or poorly trained rep happens to decide your fate – will just do what it wants anyway.

I have both badges showing on every shipping method on every order, and they’re still there after I buy the label, and I have neither AHT or SSA turned on. Most of my labels are Bound Printed Matter, and I offer only standard shipping.

As has been the case since Amazon introduced them, the badges remain only advertising for me, and that is terribly misleading. I hover over them and get the same verbiage as always.

I think this is true, but neither can we trust the help page’s claims either.

To know what Amazon really means, we will a have to see when and where the protections are actually offered.
