I really get annoyed by the show. I’ve tried watching it multiple times and everything gets explained away with a sonic screw driver and timey wimey stuff. But I admit, Tenant as the Doctor was cool.
And aliens! ![]()
“The Day of the Doctor” with John Hurt AND David Tennant AND Matt Smith is in the top ten of my all-time favorite episodes of every show I’ve ever watched.

Hurt’s Doctor used the oft-quoted catchphrase timey-wimey thing in this episode.
It was amazing. The War Doctor.
Gut punches and belly laughs.
Finally someone who knows. The Dr. Who of my childhood!
Tom Baker does a wonderful reprise as The Curator in the episode, “Gallifrey Falls No More.”

The 4th Doctor is the Original Gangsta Doctor Who - no one else has come close, doubt if anyone ever will.
Its like Dmitri Hvorostovsky singing “Eugene Onegin”, or Guy Lombardo, who died, and took New Years Eve with him. No one can expect to equal them, either.
Tom Baker was definitely the right dude for the roll.
(like Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, RDJ as Tony Stark/Iron Man, etc)
There’s a reason they tried to regenerate a similar character with the 6th.
It also helped to have the best sidekick ever in Leela.
I’m personally a HUGE Christopher Eccleston/9th Doctor fan, too, @Sundance. One season was not enough. He was fantastic.
At this point, I’m pretty sure that David Tennant has defined the role, and quite rightly. We just finished Journey’s End in our rewatch.
My 17yo and I have decided that Jackie Tyler and Wilfred Mott can do no wrong, ever in ever! ![]()
One of my most favorite scenes in television history ![]()

That’s the consensus in this house, too.

I have spoken.
Have you watched ‘Adventure in Space and Time’, the docu-drama on the creation of the Doctor Who franchise, part of the BBC’s 50th anniversary of the show? David Bradley did a wonderful job portraying William Hartnell. Hartnell was really a conflicted and complicated person, and Bradley was superb in bringing out all the nuances of his personality.
I don’t believe that I’ve seen it, but will try to find it after tonight’s batch!
Just “finished” the Astronaut Arc (except, well, for now only). About to watch: "Doctor Who" The Curse of the Black Spot (TV Episode 2011) - IMDb. Love Hugh Bonneville! ![]()
IIRC, our friend @VTR put paid on who should play Dr. Who in the next iteration some time back (cribbed image from 28Jun2021, in the OSFE):

Oh Lord, NO.
How about the guy who played Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Strange - Bubblebutt Thundersnatch!
No, that’s not right…
Humperdink Butterscotch?
Benzedrine Cucumber?
Bandersnatch Lightedmatch?
Bumpercar Crumplezone?
Anyway, THAT guy.
