Dog Shot by Amazon Delivery Driver

A family in Alabama says an Amazon delivery driver shot their dog on Sunday.

Rose Kirk told Birmingham news station WBRC that her family’s dogs, Solar and Lunar, were lying in chairs on the porch of her home in Hueytown when she heard a gunshot.

She came out and realized that a delivery driver had shot Solar. The bullet entered Solar’s shoulder and exited through his chest. Solar survived but was left with internal bleeding and will need surgery costing thousands of dollars, Kirk said.

According to the Hueytown Police Department, the driver fired a single shot in self-defense.

“As the delivery driver approached the pitch of the residence to deliver the package, a dig came out from under the porch,” the police department said in a news release posted on Facebook.

“It was reported that the dog was being very aggressive and charged at the delivery driver. The driver, who was armed, fired a single shot at the dog in an attempt to get away.”

The driver left the scene and was interviewed by officers down the street, police said.

“Through the investigation by patrol officers on scene, it was determined that there was nothing more to this investigation rather than a delivery driver attempting to defend himself,” police said.

But Kirk disagreed, saying Solar had been on a leash and that the driver had no reason to be on her property.

“He was on a chain,” Kirk told the local news station. “Why would you come up on my porch? Both of them were sitting in their chairs. He noticed them, but instead of backing off, he did not back off.”

She added: “I never ordered a package. He had no reason to be on my property.”

The family has set up a GoFundMe page seeking donations to cover the cost of Solar’s veterinary expenses.

“The Amazon driver got out of the van walked onto the porch and shot Solar,” Sashi Kirk wrote on the page. “He has a sister name Lunar that witnessed her brother being shot and she has been crying and shaking in terror.”

In a statement to Newsweek, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed the driver is no longer working for the company.

It is against Amazon’s policies for people delivering on behalf of the company to carry weapons. However, they can carry dog deterrent devices as long as they comply with state and local laws.

“We are in touch with the customer, and we’ve reached out to Hueytown Police Department as they investigate,” the spokesperson said. “The driver involved is no longer delivering packages for Amazon.”

Newsweek has reached out to the family through the GoFundMe page and the Hueytown Police Department via social media for comment.

OK, there is clearly more to this story, as the family says they didn’t order anything from Amazon. Also, discharging a firearm, self defense or not, YOU DO NOT LEAVE THE SCENE.

While Amazon is saying the driver no longer works with the company (I don’t think Amazon vests are designed to hold firearms LOL) they are going to need to do more then that here.

For the record my pup is an inside doggo, and when he is outside, he is outback in his fenced in yard with a hooman. The only time Amazon entered my gated back yard, they paid the price, not with a bite, but stepped in a fresh landmine. That was 4 years ago, and none of them have tried the back yard again!

I mean, I get what your saying. But also, if you shoot somebody’s dog I could also see that esclating quickly to where your life may be in danger. Not saying he was in the right btw. Bear mace would have been sufficient to deter a dog.

I’m not sure that a gun would EVER be my first line of defense for a dog. Hauling butt back to your van would be smart. I have a LOT of questions.

Seen Amazon deliveries marked as not deliverable for way less then a dog.

Agreed, not sure why you would even carry as a delivery driver. Your not a BRINKS driver

Just skipped past the rest of the details, because it was summarized right there.

Sure, I bet that is exactly what happened. I bet the driver also said “F you dog” and then went on a antisemitic, xenophobic, pro-Hitler rant like one would expect from Ye, before driving down the street to call the police and wait to be interviewed.

Roll tide.

I know we are all used to seeing Florida on these types of events… but they are close enough.

You ever see someone outrun a police dog fur missle
on Youtube… Nope.

Gun>Running v. dog.

To be clear:

I am not faulting the driver, I am not siding with the family, and not questioning ones right to bare arms, but I do question the information presented.

THERE IS WAY MORE TO THE STORY then presented.

NOPE, I’ve seen the video. Family had a camera, DRIVER IS 1000000000% wrong here

Dog was presenting as playful with tail wagging. Dog wanted to play, driver reached for that gun WAY TOO FAST

So sad, sounds like she made it through. Hopefully full recovery.

That driver went for his gun as soon as he saw the dogs, No attempt to do anything else. It’s like he was looking for trouble.

That was my thought too.

I am calling BS on the leash. None in the video. No fence and I don’t think that driver could see through the screen and the tire between him and the chair the dog was on. Those dogs were 10’ from the sidewalk.
Good dog, bad delivery driver, bad dog owner, bad homeowner.

I did see an article where the driver said something to the effect of “Look out, it’s coming right for us” first, so we will see how this plays out.

There is a leash on the dog on the right of the video tied to the porch post. Can’t tell on the left.

Not saying the homeowner is perfect here, FAR FROM IT, but the driver is WRONG

Story checks out. Move along.

Lets also put this in perspective. This driver was probably not just armed for dogs and was probably expecting some two legged creature to rob them.
