Ever wonder WHY you order was NOT Delivered? I have definitive answer.

Just now reading the post for “New Features for Fulflllment” , and modified my report
See New features for Fulfillment by Merchant sellers
and click the FBM Reports link

I admit this may have been available prior, but it is new to me.
Anyway I selected many options and ran the report

Note - One of the default options is DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS

Anyway before continue…

  1. Does this print anywhere on a Amazon Buy shipping Label, or a Veeqo Label?
  2. I use Shipstation - Does anyone know how to get this printed on the label?
  3. Can these Delivery instruction be shown anywhere on Amazon Order pages?

OK, now for a great read of all the instructions available for the last 30 days of my FBM orders
(I now understand WHY so many of my orders shipped by the USPS are missing in action - as these customer note are not printed on the label)

Seriously, even if those instructions were printed on the label, you think USPS is going to do any of that?

I ship by USPS. There are at least 4 that say - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS.

I ship by USPS. There are at least 4 that say - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS.

Edit
2 says do not ship by USPS
1 says do not leave in Mailroom
1 Says “Dirt Road”

Besides, if you were sending a order (not with USPS) wouldn’t you want to highlight at least on the label for these examples? Does the Customer NOT know when there are specific prior issues?

  1. Please do not leave packages outside of loading dock doors as they will not be secure and risk being stolen.

  2. Please make sure its right address and unit 220 e wilson st unit B Bamboo fence I’ve had multiple deliveries delivered to wrong address please double check thank you

AND LASTLY - Why does Amazon collect this data, if it is not displayed? As a customer, who is given the option and as such would think the delivery company has this note, and then my order is again stolen or sent by USPS when I explicitly said not to send by USPS, or mis-delivered, I would think that YOU the seller are NOT doing your JOB.

In Amazon, you can set up delivery instructions for your Amazon orders.

Amazon

You can add delivery instructions on Amazon to specify where packages should be left, such as a back porch or garage, and provide gate codes or security codes. These instructions can be added to your account’s default address or modified for a specific, pending order before it ships.

How to Add Delivery Instructions

  • Via Account Settings (Default): Go to Your Account > Your Addresses > Add delivery instructions under the specific address.

  • During Checkout: Select Add delivery instructions directly under the address during the checkout process.

In USPS, you can set up delivery instructions.

USPS

You can leave delivery instructions for USPS for eligible packages by using the "

USPS Delivery Instructions" feature via their Informed Delivery dashboard or the USPS Tracking site. Options include specifying a safe spot (like a back porch or garage), holding for pickup, or redirecting to another address.

In UPS, you can set up delivery instructions.

UPS

You can add delivery instructions for UPS packages, primarily by signing up for the free UPS My Choice® service. Through the app or website, you can instruct drivers to leave packages in a specific location (e.g., side door, garage), gate codes, or hold packages.

In FedEx, you can set up delivery instructions.

FedEx

You can leave delivery instructions for FedEx using the free**FedEx Delivery Manager** service. Through their app or website, you can request to leave packages at a specific spot (side door, porch), provide gate codes, or ask them not to ring the doorbell.

Key Details for Leaving FedEx Instructions:

  • How to do it: Sign up for FedEx Delivery Manager online or in the mobile app to set permanent or per-package instructions.

We would think that what you are seeing is the instructions coming from the Amazon customer instructions for Amazon deliveries and general instructions instructions given at time the order was placed. Most of these people are thinking it is coming by Amazon, UPS or FedEx and creates the other issue of the address not being in the USPS site as a deliverable address because their mail actually comes through a mailbox (rural customers happens a lot).

No … haven’t seen it happen unless customer puts it in the name

Don’t know … however on the USPS site, there is now a way to put info and/or instructions on the bottom of the label.

If they are done at Account level, no they will not appear and would be for Amazon deliveries.
If they are done when completing the order, we have no idea; however, we have never seen instructions on orders.

We use USPS 100% of the time with 99% of those being Ground Advantage. We have maybe 2 or 3 non deliverable orders per year with USPS. We use Amazon Buy Shipping 100% of the time (very rarely have to use USPS … only when issue with Amazon Buy Shipping not allowing USPS GA).

A business knows when and how USPS deliveries will happen … this instruction is for UPS or FedEx issues.

Again we think this is for UPS and FedEx. A person experiencing mail issues would complain at the post office or through USPS site.

Definitely for Amazon, UPS or FedEx as the instructions tell them to “turn left after the mail box”.

Customer education … if the customer does not have the ability to select the type of delivery service used, just specifying it in instructions does not mean it is going to happen. The customer on Amazon can select Gift Option and leave a note. Usually, it is a note like “Grandpa and Grandma loves you!”. Sometimes, buyers will sneak a note in to the seller like not to send an invoice with pricing (you know … those drop shippers). They could put a note about not sending USPS there. You would see that. In our case if we got something like that, we would send a message stating that we only use USPS and give the customer the choice of proceeding or tell them they would need to cancel the order.

We truly think the list you pulled down is what customers put in for Amazon drivers (just like we personally have done for Amazon, UPS and FedEx).

Amazon drivers see those instructions and follow them. Works wonderfully. They will even follow the instructions on how to open the lockbox and leave the product in the lobby. Those instructions are not on the label.

FBM sellers need to accept the fact that they are not included in all the benefits of selling on Amazon. And the list of those benefits is longer and grows longer.

FBA stopped being worthwhile for me when Amazon changes the storage fees to have a minimum fee which was no longer based on storage volume, and my items which turned slowly were no longer cost effective.

I stopped selling on Amazon when it was clear that the Amazon buyer was no longer buying my type of product.

So if you take the time to read it … we ship USPS 100% of the time AND 99% of those being Ground Advantage which means we use another service other than Ground Advantage for the other 1% (which is Priority Mail).

So your remark regarding our volume is totally off the mark and very disrespectful.

Since this is the same information that can be added at account level regardless of the order AND is provided to the Amazon drivers for each of our orders, yes we believe it is for Amazon as none of the orders delivered by UPS or FedEx to us receive those instructions when delivering to our home.

You know … we often have wanted to input some information onto the label (and sometimes do it by writing it on) that wasn’t provided by the customer but we felt needed to be on the label. Our intent was only to let you know that it is now possible to do this on the USPS site. It’s something new that we stumbled across.

We have no idea why … but we have had customers do this. Maybe they didn’t see the link below their address for that type of note … maybe it was before that link existed there. It happen.

And all we did was give our perspective and our personal experience with the use of that field.

I think you’re being a little harsh in your replies here. As a longtime Amazon customer who orders frequently, and an FBM-only seller for just over 25 years who has never shipped any order with a carrier other than USPS, I can tell you that the instructions you are seeing are intended only for Amazon drivers. I have had my instructions on my buyer account for many years, and usually they are followed.

For USPS, it would do no good to include those instructions on the shipping label. USPS delivers to mailboxes, and if a customer’s mailbox is not in an easily accessible and safe location, that’s on the recipient. Some letter carriers will, as a courtesy, leave parcels in other places, such as at a back door or in a parcel box, but they are not required to do so.

For many years now, it’s been very easy to simply open an account with FedEx or UPS and enter delivery instructions. You do not have to have a business account with them or even ship anything. I have a login with both FedEx and UPS, and they alert me to when packages are sent to me, along with tracking numbers. It’s not rocket science.

This comment is rude. Give the average customer just a little bit of credit here. Yes, I’m sure some think it’s for every carrier, but most Amazon customers receive the majority of their orders from Amazon drivers, so yes, I do think it’s generally understood that you are giving those instructions for an Amazon driver.

Again, quite rude. It’s none of your business how many parcels another poster ships. Lost_My_Marbles is one of the most helpful and knowledgeable forum members and has helped countless others with myriad problems. For you to mock them is unacceptable. Plus, your math is laughably inaccurate. A seller could send 1 million USPS packages per month, 99 percent of them Ground Advantage, and have only two or 3 nondeliverable orders. You read something wildly inaccurate into the example to justify your own indignation. Shame on you.

A friendly mod reminder to all SellersAskSellers members to address your fellow Sellers respectfully, please.

I’m not certain about the average Amazon customer, but definitely some Amazon cus-duh-mers. :winking_face_with_tongue:

And personally? Amazon Delivery is still so new in my area that I am surprised when I see it. (And annoyed because their tracking sux.)

Hmm, I don’t know that I would ever use the Gift Note to sneak a message to a Seller–but I sure will now, if needed!

FWIW, I would also handle it in the way you would, @Lost_My_Marbles. If for nothing else, for the documentation that the Buyer had done that and their content, in case the order runs into issues.
